Cuba Being Invaded by American
Aimy-Dewey’s 1 Report at Wash¬
ington, I
As stated last week', Admiral Sampson had been sent
out to attack the Spanish flotilla and the Spaniards must
have scented the danger from afarj at least, the flotilla
has gene back to Cadiz, as the following dispatch shows:
Washington, May 10—Secretary Ldng received a cable
late this afternoon announcing that the Cape Verde fleet
h d arrived at Cadiz, and this ends all hope of a battle at
Pori o Rico between Sam pson’s fleet and the Spanish fleet.
Chickamauga Park, May 10.—This provisional army
corps was ordered to the front at 9 o’clock last night, and

and destroyed the following ve. : sels: Reina Christina,
Castilla, Ulloa, Isla de Cuba, Geieral Lezo, Duero, Ve¬
lasco, Mindanao, one transport fnd the water battery at
Cavite. The squadron is uninjurd and only a few men
were slightly wounded. The ojjy means of Oh

miles tioiR Havana Wednesda It is the general opinion
that a large army will he land in the island at once,
* Reinforcements to Rear AuM’al Dewey will he sent cut

Spain is evidently doing nfiing. The presence of her
Cape de Verde fleet at Gadijmy mean a movement against
Dewey, in the Philippines, a it may be a manoeuvre to
marshall the Spanish foices go against Sampson aed Schley
off the coast ot Cuba.
