BARRED OUT. Slim Chances of the South Carolina Exhibit Finding Room. The question of such a division of space in the Womans’ Building that all appli cants will be suited, has proven by far the most intricate problem which has xet confronted the ladies of the board. There is a strong probability at the pres ent writing that the ladies who have been at work for a South Carolina exhibit will be forced to abandon their plans. Through a misunderstanding the Palmetto state was not given a separate room for its display. At a recent meeting of the board of women managers, the application came up for final action, and the discour aging discovery was made that there was no space available. At this juncture Mrs. E. L. Tyler, chairman of the committee on decorative art, offered to share her allotment with the South Carolina committee. Accord ingly one end of the large hall in the building was reserved for them. A short time ago the reservation was voided by the ladies themselves, who were then negotiating for a prominent location in the annex. Mrs. Tyler then entertained an application from a number of Russian women who wished space for an exhibit, and the portion of the hall previously tendered to the South Carolina board was given them. Subsequently the deal for space in the annex fell through, and as the latter applicants had already packed and shipped their exhibit, it was impos sible to again place it at the disposal of the ladies of Governor Evans’ State. Consequently it is now probable that this interesting exbibit will not be at the Exoo>ition. The South Carolina ladies have worked long and hA-d to get up a fine display and raise the Necessary funds, and it will be a sore disappointment should no available space be found between now and the opening of the gates. THE SOUTHERN RAILROAD. This magnificently managed road is the only one entering the ground, and they will run a ten minute schedule to and from there, charging 10 cent fare each way. This furnishes the most rapid transit possible, and the public will find it much to their advantage to avail them selves of it. In addition to these facilities the South ern has erected the most unique and classical building on the ground. It is pure white with a gilded dome surmounted by a heroic size female figure represent ing modern railway progress. Inside will be a Bureau of Information under the auspices of the passenger department and a similar bureau conducted by the Land and Immigration department of this great system. This will prove an immense convenience to the public, and exhibits an entemrise deserving the high est commendation. With its cars entering the ground, quick schedules and reliable service, the South ern should be the popular carrier of the people to the big show.
