We learn'froUl an Agent of the Nashville k Chattanooga Railroad ; that the GhtUtnnoogu & Alabama road ! have suspended operations, and that I a thousand employees have Struck on account of pay. There seems to he a general squabble, Chattanooga cred itors taking possession of the rolling stock fit this end while Alabama seized property at the lower end of the road. From the conversation had with the agent the above points were strongest impressions upon us, and consequently wo do not publish this as confidential but await the particulars by mail. O.vtJ Mali: The Third.—The most remarkable occurrence during the “tights" of a snmdTrop year vVo have ever heard of, happened near this place last week. How to Kill A Town.—Under | rate your neighbors’ property ; with ; hold your support from your home j mechanics and manufacturers ; buy j everything you need from some other place in preference to your own; and, if you are in business, refuse to ad vertise. Cobs js buoyant in this section l>nt : cotton is rather on the decline. The Tennessee House, within 20 j slops of the depot, is the place to stop at when you go to Rome, f A Joke on the Printers. A BATCH OF COMICAL TYPOGRAPHICAL 1 BLUNDERS. There is no funnier reading in the world than some of, tint-printer's blun-1 ders that go the rounds of the pa-! pers. He are are a-few that a laugh j or two may be found in; In the office of a New \ ork paper j there stood in type the 'report of a ; sermon and a paragraph about theca-; reer of a mad dog. In "making up” j these two got mixed, and the readers ! of the paper next day were astonished hy the following melange: “The Rev. James Thompson preached to a large ; audience last Sunday. JTliis was Ins ! last sermon previous to tiis embarka tion for Europe. He exhorted bis | brethren and sisters, and after offer- j ing a devout prayer, took a wliim to Cut up some frantic freaks. He ran up Smith street to Brown, and down ; Gar to College. At this stagt* of the ! proceedings some boys seized him, ; tied a teakettle to bis tail and let! him go. A grout crowd gathered, and for ! a few minutes there was a lively scene.’ . A printer in Syracuse, setting up a ! book advertisement, thus gave rho ti tle of one of Dickon’s novels: “Bar ney, by Budge, $1.50.” The writer of m obituary notice of I an estimable lady, said that thr lie-j reaved husband was “hardly able to } bear the demise of Ids wife.” Imag ine bis disgust on reading in print! that the bereaved husband was “hardly able to wear the rhrmise of his wife.” | The London Home Jnmn-'l once in describing a wedding in high Jjfe, said j that the bride was accompanied to the i altar by tight bridesmaids. Here are a few instances which illustrate it: Wanted a young man to take charge of a pair or horses of a religious turn of mind.” “A child was run over by a wvgon three years old and erossoved■with pantalets which never spoke afterwards.” “The pro cession Was veiy fine and nearly ten? miles in length,-a*-vas also the pr«y<w of Dr. Ferry, the chaplain.” an enamelled lady's gold-watch charms. After a season of earnest, faith ful conversation and prayer, sire pro posed to return t>> her home. The family kindly urged her to remain all night, and the minrsfor joined heartily in their request. Shcvdcelincd, how ever, and when supposed to be quite Out of bearing, she heard the minister rctnafk that he was exceedingly glad he did not stay, as ho had asked her merely out of politeness. The young girl hastened ItotMe, too much shocked and tUO indignant to communicate her feelings even to her mother. But from that fatal evening all serious impressions vanished. She felt that if she could not, place confi dence in her minister’s piety, she could not believe in any one. The hopes of pious friends were doomed to a sad disappointment. She grew utterly indifferent to the subject of religion, and all the entreat’o'; and counsels of her pastor seemed only to make her more hard and bitter.— And in this frame the angel of death Knocked at Iter door. With her head upon her dying pillow, she told her mother the sad story. She had suf fered herself tc lc k at the din. panes of the lighthouse instead of the Sun of righteousness, and now her own day of life Was setting In utter dark ness. A man in Fairfield county*, Con., recently lost his wife. The reputa tion of the man for descries- in money matters was w ide-spread. After her death, it was proposed by her friends to remove her body to a neighboring town. He feigned sickness at the re moval in order to save car fare to the funeral, but when the body wa , being put in a wagon preparatory to going to tbe distant station, and it Was found necessary to take a rope to secure the coffin, he mustered strength to get to the door to request that they return the rope, “as it was handy to tie up the calf.” The Difference.—One young la dy rises early rolls up her sleeves goes into the kitchen to get breakfast, or insists upon doing so, and afterwards with cheerful smiles puts the house in order without the assistance of “mother.” She will make a good wife and render home a paradise.—- Young man, “get her.” Another young lady is a parlor beauty, palid from company, dissipa tion and want, of exercise, reads nov els and almost dies of laziness, while tbe poor old mother does her washing. She is a useless piece of furr.'tore, an annoyance to tbe husband she may chance to “rope in,” and will go on wbinning to her grave. Young man, “let her alone T ADIE’S FAVORITE.
