large amount ol' wheat. Give them

One of the most welcome visitors
to our sanctum is Pomeroy's Democrat
always full of raev and interesting
matter on all subjects. Every de
partment is a success, and there is rio
other paper that gives such a variety
of news, and all in such an attractive
form as the Democrat. In politics it
is uncompromising, and its teachings
we earnestly commend to all our read
ers. The “Home Corner” is well
filled by the terse, spirited articles of
Elm Orlou—while Mrs. Battey is do
iog good service to our fair friends as
fashion editress and purchasing agent,
moreover, being a Georgia lady she
has pre eminent claims on iheir pat
ronage. Order the Democrat at once
—place it in reach of the family and
oar word for it you will never regret
the outlay.
The Crops in this Countr. —Eve-
ry dav the news comes in more cheen
ing. The crop of wheat is the best
which has been harvested for ten years.
The quality is fine and the yield will
b« very heavy. The prospect for
good crops of corn and oat 9 is very !
promising. The corn has been well
cultivated and the fine rains are rush- j
ing it forward rapidly.
From all parts of the county it is
gratifying to hear W’hat prospects are
ahead of our farmers. Without an
accident this eottnty will raise double i
the amount of cotton produced last
year, and then it was a considerable
item in spite of the unprecedented
drought.
Here is the place fop those desiring
homes in a region where corn, oats,
wheat, barley and cotton cun all be
raised in abundance, and where fruits
of every kind grow in rare profusion.
Pure air, good water, rich land, fine
schools, an abundance of churches—
the Railroad almost a certainty—good
society, and sirnon pure Democracy,
makes this an attractive and desirable
section for those in search of homes.
A hearty welcome awaits those who
will cast their lot among us.
Wheat threshing i- engaging the at
tention of our farmers. The fine
rains on Monday interrupted their
operations, but the weather is now
magnificent.
We dont remember ever to have
seen crops in better condition at this
season of the year. Corn and cotton
clear of grass and weeds. A few
more rains will secure an immense
corn crop.
Messrs. J. J. P. Henry, T. R.
Beaty and other gentlemen on Chat
tooga river have fields of corn wdiieh
cannot be surpassed.
Wheat in Rome $1,75 per bushel
at last advices.
Judge A. R. Wright, of Romo, is
spoken of for our next Governor.—
He has many friends all over the
State who would rejoice to see him
elevated to that high position.
J. M'Elliott & Cos.. Rome, Ca.—
We ask the attention of our readers
to the card of these gentlemen so well
known in upper Georgia. They are
in the market for a large amount of
wheat. Farthers will find it to their
interest to call on them.
Gov. Sam. Bard will move the Chat

the Fair.
