has given positive instructions to her
delegates in favor of Greeley and
Brown, end other Southern States

The recent removal of the remains
of over seven -hundred Confederate
soldiers from Gettysburg to Holly
wood Cemetery in liieiimond, Vir

he easily told for each year. But I
sec in the Trcastncr s report before
me that the reports scent to lie for
1871, and the disbursements are from
December 1870 to 24th of May 1872.
I can’t see how it is possible that they
can explain themselves kept an this
way. Nor can 1 see how any utatt
can uwlerstaml them from tin* report !

take the report of the Treasurer tor
1871 as a data to make a fair calcu
lat ion from, and 1 apprehend it is a
bout the amount of receipts paid into
the Treasury each year since the stir
render, which are six years, and you

which, has been disbursed in the last
six year*. This large sum perhaps
has been properly managed,* hut it
will he remembered that nor courts
only sit two or throe dnvs for several
years after the surrender, and, if 1
remember l ight, (he jurors were not
paid for some years after our courts
commenced their regular sessions.—
Now 1 am satisfied from tvll 1 hear
from different parts of the county
that the tax payers not only feel that
the State taxes arc burdensome hut
our countv taxes are extremely so.
and this "gri tv.ing" is. not confined to
one or too ax paveis, hut many have
expressed themselves to me as bciuir
dissati-’iied with the management of
the county funds, believing that proper
oennotm is not enforced by the proper
authorities.
Now in conclusion 1 have a short

terday evening, between one and two
o’clock. Miss Eliza A. Coker, who
was living with her brother in-law,
Mr. Harrison James, five miles from
this place on the road to CU.iStauoogu
left his house and not returning dur
ing the evening Mr. James became
uneasy andcollectodsomeof Iris neigh
bors, when sc* tfch was ma do for her
and she was found about ID o’clock
in an out-house about half a mile from
his residence suspended from a rafter
of the budding by a Tope; one end of
which she haj adjusted around her

posed she had been dead for sever,il
hours as her body was stiff' and cold.

fore Coroner A. A, Simmons,
