A Georgia editor refuses to sup port Grant or Greeley on the ground that it is as much as he can do to support himself. A Little girl, daughter of a cler gyman, being left one day to “tend door,” and obeying a summons of the bell, she found a gentleman on the steps who wished to see her father.— “ Father isn’t in,” she said, “but if it's anything about your soul I can attend to you. I know the whole plan of salvation.” A negro named Jim Johnson, at Greensborough, North Carolina, was entrusted to freeze some icecream on the occasion of the commencement of All-. Fontaine s Fi male Academy. 7/aving an old grudge against Mr. Fontaine he poisoned th - ice cr-mn and the enure supper party, consist ing of 2G persons, were very soon vi lentlv affected. At last accounts none had died; but the physicians in attend ance have despaired of sevefaf.— Johnson was arrested and put in jail a’ and there is some talk of lynching him, which he richly deserves. We were glad to see so many of our citizens from all parts of the coun ty in attendance upon the meeting last Saturday. There was an intense Railroad feeling. We sincerely hope that much will yet be accomplished, arid that very soon from their assem bling on that occasion. The building of a railroad is no common undertak- j ing. Gcri-it Smith to the fact that many of the Kn-Klux prisoners confined at Albany were deserving of the interposition of Ex ecutive clemency. lie urged that some of'tln-se poor creatures were so grossly ignorant, that others were too young to comprehend the nature of the fearful o' bg ions which they had assumed, and that others had undoub tedly beer, terrified into joining Am Ku-Hiux organizations. Mr. Gree ley asked Mr. Smith, as a philan thropist, to examine into the facts of the case lor !iuusoif, and use his in- fluence with t.ue President, with whom ids relations were cordially close, i-i behalf of such deserved it. Mr. Smith agreetr to look into the affair, but -raid lie was doubtful if the President would he induced, in the midst of a heated campaign, to take steps for tbs re!m e of any of the prisoners, as it might injure- bis political prospects.
