Forest Park
Christian Church

Under the rules adopted by the
church in a congregational meet
ing called for that purpose, in May
of this year, the church held its
first annual business meeting Aug
ust 28th, at 7:30 p.m.
New officers for the church and
Bible school were elected.
Thursday evening of last week
the congregation gathered for its
monthly fellowship dinner. High
light of the evening was a preview
of the plans for the sanctuary.
The church is planning a special
program for the afternoon of Sep
tember 22nd, to bid John and Hea
ther Kernan, and their two chil
dren, Godspeed on their journey
to the Union of South Africa, where
they will work to spread the Gospel
of Christ in southern Africa.

NOTICES
Mr. Milton Hancel Duke, Sr. of
Route 1, Forest Park, passed away
at his residence Wednesday, Aug
ust 21, 1957.
Mr. Duke was born in Dahlonega,
Georgia, August sth. 1891, and for
several years made his home in
Fayette County. For the past three
years he and Mrs. Duke had made
their home in Forest Park on Hen
drix Drive, corner of Conley Road.
Mr. Duke Was survived by his
wife; mother, Mrs. C. C. Duke;
daughters, Mrs. F. M. Bonner,
Stone Mountain, Mrs. E. M. Waters,
Atlanta, Mrs. R. L. Griggers, Stone
Mountain, and Mrs. J. R. Mathis,
Atlanta; sons, M. H. Duke, Fayette
ville, W. R. Duke, Ben Hill, and
Gene L. Duke, U. S. Army; sisters,
Mrs. Emory Chatham, Buford, Mrs.
Ernest Almond, Flowery Branch,
Mrs. Fred Fiord, Talmo, and Mrs.
Ed Finn, Atlanta; brothers, Otto
Duke, John Dake, and W. C. Duke,
all of Flowery Branch.
Funeral services were held Sat
urday, August 24th from the Eber
nezer Methodist Church, Fayette
County. Rev. Roy W. Bevan and
Rev. F. M, Davis officiated. Inter
ment in churchyard.
Abercrombie Patterson Funeral
Home was in charge of the arrange
ments.
Mrs. Clifford Mary (Bose) Mad
dox of 107 Pharr Street, Jonesboro,
passed away Sunday, August 18.
Mrs. Maddox was a native of
Spalding County. She was 66 years
old, and had made Jonesboro her
home for a number of years.
She is survived by her son, Mr.
Luther W. Maddox of Jonesboro;
two grandchildren, and a number
of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tues
day, August 20th from the Chapel
of Abercrombie - Patterson Funeral
Home, Jonesboro. Rev. C. E. Mad
dox officiated. Interment was in
the Turner Cemetery.

Mr. Harvey Pierce Piper of 130
Ash Street, Forest Park, passed
away at his residence Wednesday,
August 28.
Mr. Piper was born in Covington,
Georgia (Newton County) in 1898.
For t*ie past sixteen years Mr. and
Mrs. Piper had made their home
in Forest Park.
Survived by his wife; daughters,
Mi's. C. H. Brown, Forest Park, Mrs.
Maurice Lee, Atlanta; son, Olin
Reid Piper, Forest Park; six grand
children; sisters, Mrs. Irene Little
of Forest Park, Mrs. J. M. Bailey of
Eatonton; brothers, C. N. Piper,
Forest Park, E. A. Piper, Rome, H.
C. Piper, Jonesboro, E. L. Piper,
f Conyers, and C. W. Piper, Decatur.

day, August 30th from Jones Me
morial First Methodist Church For

The Parish Education Board of
St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church
held a dinner meeting September
4th at the church. The table was
beautifully decorated and a white,
green and yellow motif was carried
throughout.
An exquisite meal was prepared
and served by Mrs. Kohn Baker and
Mrs. Goodrow Young.
We had as our guest speaker Dr.
Paul Renz from Peachtree Road
Lutheran Church. He gave an en
lightening talk on the importance
of Parish Education in the Church
and homes. A display of pham
plets, books, etc was arranged so
that those present were able to
brouse around and ask Dr. Renz
any questions at random about par
ish education.

ther Fulmer, Mr. and Mrs. Kohn
Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dean,
Mr. and Mrs. Goodrow Young, Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Lambert. Miss Carol

Funeral services were held on
Thursday, September 5, at Jones
Memorial First Methodist Church
for Mrs. H. L. (Evelyn Hicks) Sprat
lin.
Mrs. Spratlin, who made her
home at 1085 Central Avenue, For
est Park, passed away on Septem
ber 3 in a local hospital.
She is survived by her husband;
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Young
Hicks of East Point; sisters, Mrs.
E. J. Dodson, East Point, Mrs. H.
C. Fabian 111, of Los Angeles, Cal
ifornia; brother, Joe M. Hicks of
East Point; grandmother, Mrs. R.
C. Hicks, Hapeville.
The Reverend C. E. Wilson of
ficiated. Interment was in the
church cemetery.

They were accompanied by Mr.
and Mrs. M. P. Cornett, Jr. of
Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Puryear are
fortunate enough to have relatives
they enjoy visiting living at ideal
vacation spots: the mountains and
the beach.
After visiting friends in Jackson
ville Beach, they crossed the state
to reach Apalachicola. There they
visited Mr. Puryear’s sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H. C.
Clemens at their cottage on the
Gulf.
The week-end of July 28 was
spent in Lakemont. While there
they visited their son and his wife,
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Puryear, Jr.,
who make their home in Clarkes
ville, Georgia.
The Forest Park Puryears reside
at 170 North Avenue.
Miss Donna Stanford of Bismark,
Illinois, has been the guest of her
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas E. Stanford of 106 Park
Drive.
While here she accompanied the
Stanfords and their children, Anne,
Tommy and Cindy, on a three day
vacation at Jacksonville Beach.
The friends of Mrs. Tommie
Conine of 130 Pine Valley Drive
are glad to see her home again
after a stay of several days in St.
Joseph Infirmary. She entered
July 29 and returned to Forest
Park on August 1.
Phil Conie left July 26 for a visit
with his grandmother, Mrs. W. L.
Goolsby of Ellaville.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kline and
children, Chris and Mary Nell, of
Griffin spent Sunday, August 4,
with Mrs. Kline’s aunt, Miss Eunice
Ramsey of 17 Lake Drive. Another
niece, Miss Gloria Ramsey, and
her friend, Miss Shirley Marcus,
both of California, have been visit
ing Miss Ramsey for several
weeks.

Rev. Harold Cochran, pastor of
Jones Memorial First Methodist
Church began a week of preaching
last Sunday at me revival being
held at Occe Methodist Church in
North Fulton County.
Rev. Cochran is preaching each
evening during the revival. He de
livered his first message to the
Occe congregation this past Sunday
evening.
The revival at Ocee Methodist
will continue through this coming
Sunday.
