That's the way Arch Gary feels about it. He
doesn't really think in terms of public office. To
him, it's purely public service.
There was a time when he had no chance to
do anything like this. He was too busy raising a
family — driving a cab in the day time, going to
law school. But when he finally worked his way up
to the top, he figured it was time "to give some
thing back."
That's why he ran for Mayor of Riverdale.
With the help of his City Council, he wrote a su
perb record of civic achievement. That's one rea
son the American Municipal Association has in

Unforgettable? The only thing
unforgettable about Davis is
that we find it hard to forget
him, even though we would all
dearly love to. But he is so
badly overrated you just can’t
forget that.
To me, much more unforget
table would have been, on Sul
livan’s show, Jerry Lewis in a
dialogue with the little Italian
mouse, or Sonny Liston going
one fast round (or a fraction
thereof) with Frank Sinatra,
or Khrushchev coming face to
face with Disney’s Mickey

Any of those would be unfor

Ella Fitzgerald, omigosh!

See where Ralph McGill, ola

his desegregation efforts by
the Civil Liberites League.
Maybe Pm wrong but it seems
to me any Southern newspaper
man who came out strongly
against the will of most peo
ple and stood up for theNAACP
and fought the battle for their
“freedom” -- freedom from
what?— could win an Oscar
from organizations on the Negro
side of the fence.
In short, it didn’t require bril
liance or a deep insight into
such problems but just a will
ingness to fly into the teeth of
a vast majority of one’s own
people. Many hundreds of other
Southern editors and writers
preferred to stand by their own
teachings and traditions and
leave the Oscars to — well,
to Ralph.

talking about.
Now he's a candidate for the Georgia House
of Representatives—a political area where he can
enlarge the scope of public service. It gives him a
chance to get more things done for the people in
the county he loves.
Arch Gary can do a lot for Clayton County.
He's got the ability. He's got the experience. He's
got wholehearted, dedicated desire.
Vote for him in the primaries April 4th. If you

Clayion County Must Adhere to a Unilorm Zoning Plan
WHY:
First: Os 159 Counties in the State of Georgia. Clayton County stands No 157 in size. Yet in
population we now rank approximately 11th. As our population spirals upward, we
must guide through prudent zoning the use of the remaining available land area of this
County so as to provide an equitable distribution of residential, commercial and indus
trial properties that will provide a consistent and stable tax revenue. Our planning to
day. or the lack of it, will chart the future of Clayton County. We cannot affard a .jun
gle of mere expansion, we must know where we are going.
Secondly: The existing property owners of this County must be protected. Property owners
are entitled to. and must have, absolute assurance that their respective property values
will not be damaged as a result of undesirable zoning practices.
