In last week's issue, I mentioned some streets being badly in need of repair, these streets
being in the Forest Park, Lake City and Mountain View areas. These streets are critically in
need of resurfacing, and not merely in need of re-patching.
On April 4th you will go to the polls to elect officers to your County offices, and three of
these men will be your County Commissioners. Before you vote, ask yourself if the present
County Commissioners kept their promises that they made 4 years ago. I say no!
1 don’t blame a person for being in the real estate business, but I do blame him for taking
the tax payers' money and using it for personal gain.
It will be impossible to see and discuss the issues with all of you before the election, but if
you have any problems, call me at 478-9523.
Your Vote and Influence Will Be Greatly Appreciated!

If elected, I will cooperate with city officials, the
other County Commissioners and county representa
tives to get laws passed. I feel that the citizens in
this area have been neglected by the present Com
missioners. The citizens 1 have talked with seem to
agree with me If these neglected streets can be
repaired, these citizens could see some results of
thir tax money, as we know that a large amount of
the tax money comes from this area of the county.
I wish to answer a question asked me many times,
as to whether I am a licensed real estate broker.
The answer is “No” and I have no desire for one.
I must say I can't biame the people for asking, as
my opponent is in this business and has used the
county water and equipment for improving large
tracts of land, enabling him to make large sales.
One sale I know of amounted to approximately
5300.000 and this sale was handled by Mr. Duncan’s
company. The commission on this sale alone was
approximately $25,000. This sale was made possible
at the taxpayers’ expense. I could name several
other transactions which he has used for personal
gain.
Also. I have been asked whether I am connected
with an Insurance Company or had a license to sell
insurance and the answer to this is definitely "No".
1 Some of our present Commissioners are in the in
surance business..
1 I would like to add that I would be in favor of
County insurance being let out by a bld method,
insuring fairness both to the Insurance Companies
and the taxpayers, saving the latter a great deal of.
money.

shouted and beseeched the
speaker of the House to be
heard before a vote.
Rep. Denmark Groover of Bibb
County, a key opponent, raced
to the gallery of the House, rip
ped out the clock that had been
stopped 10 minutes before the
midnight deadline for the
session. It fell to the House
floor, shattering Into bits and
pieces.
“Others on the floor screech
ed and cursed in a usually vain
effort to gain recognition from
the speaker. Weary-faced le
gislators milled confusedly in
the din. Some were In shirt
sleeves, others had yanked their
ties loose or removed them
altogether.
“Since at least Friday mid
afternoon, some legislators,
visitors, guests and observers
had been pouring drinks in the
Capital building. Inexpensive
champagne and numerous bot
tles of assorted liquor in paper
bags were available.
“End-of-the-sesslon merri
ment progressed sporadically 1
hither and yon in the building
during the later afternoon and
early evening Friday as legis
lators awaited the conference
reports and the final chaotic
debate on redistricting In the
House.”
Those must have been dis
graceful scenes, particularly
the stopping of the clock and
then ripping the clock from
its moorings and sending it
crashing to the bloor in bits.
It must be said again that
many politicians feel their job
was created for them and not
for the people. And they often
times behave like it, as in this
instaneq.

Experience Is Invaluable To You-—
Experience in the operation of your County Governmental affairs is invaluable to you. Much
is learned about what con and cannot be done by actual experience and study and those things that
are impractical and impossible of attainment are thus eliminated.
। “ The position of County Commissioner is
complished during the present administration in the way of road and bridge construction and pro
viding badly needed public buildings. Our gasoline and lubricants are purchased under sealed
and competitive bidding and over $40,000.00 was saved after installation of this system in 1961.
If you will only give the results obtained a careful and unbiased study, I am certain that your
verdict will be that our county government has done much for our county's progress and your
welfare during the past three years.
I trust that you will consider me worthy of re-election on April 4th.

a very difficult and trying position to fill, as
you can only render those services that the
county's financial capacity will justify and
the demand for services of different types is
great. The conditions under which a County
Commissioner works should be seriously con
sidered by you before heaping coals of fire
upon his head.
The rumor mill is already operating in
full force. Having served the people of Clay

you before lending an attentive ear to those
statements made purely for political effect.
In fairness to me this is your duty.
In choosing between me and my oppo

upon our past records and accomplishments.
This is as it should be. I believe that I have
