The fifth annual Christmas
Decoration Contest for the resi
dents of Cherry Hills, spon
sored by the College Park Es
tates Garden Club, was held
Dec, 20. Preceding the judging
of the contest a buffet was
served for the judges at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. W, Mc-
Queen. The judges were Char
les Tucker and Mrs. Joye
Spates from Jonesboro, Miss
Jane Tuggle and Thomas Sal
ter from Atlanta, Mrs. Clyde
Smart from Decatur and La
mar Northcutt of College Park.
The winners received cup
trophies in each category and
the grand prize was a large
Victory Trophy donated to the
by Northcutt Dairy. The reci
pe? nt of this prize will hold it
for one year then It is to be re
turned to the club for use the
following year.

4 Majors Added
CARROLLTON—The addition
of four majors to the academic
program at West Georgia Col
lege has been approved by the
Board of Regents of the Uni
versity System of Georgia.
Dr. James E. Boyd, presi
dent of West Georgia College,
announced majors in French,
Spanish and Music Education
were approved under the Ba
chelor of Arts degree pro
gram, and that a major In Busi
ness Education was approved
under the Bachelor of Science

Jesse Starrs Celebrate Golden Anniversary
Sunday afternoon, Dec, 20, a
host of friends and relatives
called at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Jesse Starr on Lake Har
bin Road, Morrow, to congra
tulate this popular couple on
50 years of wedlock. The home
was attractively decorated with
arrangements of gold and white.
The daughters, Mrs, J. R. John
son and Mrs. J.O, Carter, and
daughters-in-law Mrs. Harold
H. Starr and Mrs. Henn H.
Brown acted as hostesses.
Angela Carter, a granddaughter
kept the guest book.
The serving table was overlaid
with a gold nylon net cloth
over yellow satin. Gracing the
table at one end was the four
tier cake iced in white, an
exquisite piece of culinary art.
Triple cakes comprised the
first tier, topped with three
graduating tiers. All were
heavily embossed in white with

Chief J, F. Picard, chief of
the Forest Park Fire Dept,
assisted by his secretary, Mrs.
Collins Tidwell, was host to
the firemen and their families
at a Christmas party on Sa
turday evening Dec. 19 at the
Headquarters Fire Station on
Highway 54. The guests enjoyed
a social hour and Christmas
tree from which each person
received a gift. Every Child
present received a fruit bac
ket with a toy. Following this
a buffet supper with all the
yuletide foods was served. One
hundred and ten people were
present.

of the Young Woman’s Auxili
ary of the First Baptist Church
of Forest Park, had Open House
for this group and their dates
at her home at 109 Erwin Cir
cle on Saturday night, Dec. 19
from 7 to 11. In the atmosp

and background music the girls
and boys enjoyed the hospital
ity and food furnished by their
hostess. They also took this
occasion td give to the Lottie
Moon Christmas offering for
Foreign Missions. Mrs. Maxey

Christmas time. Colonel Gray
H. Edwards and family are
from Fort Monroe, Virginia
and CWO3 Davey L. Edwards
and family live in Tallahassee,

A Christmas musical program
given by the choir of the Lake
City Baptist Tabernacle on Sun
day evening, Dec. 20, evidenced
the talent of this group of sin
gers. The program consisted of
scripture read by Don Grice,
interspersed with carols by the
adult choir, quartets, solos and
children’s choir, along with ta
ble depectlng the scenes in the
birth of Christ. Ed Cloer is
director of the church, Mrs. W.
A. Craddock, organist and Miss
Carol Sheppard pianist. Mrs.
Willie Cobb had charge of cos
tumes and lighting.

Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Daniel
of Morrow left Dec. 29 for
Memphis to attend the wedding
of their grandson, Jacob Green
Keltner, Jr., of Fort Myers
Beach, Fla, to Miss Carole
Paulette Radford of Trimble,
Tenn. The ceremony will take
place Dec. 31 at the Trimble
Baptist Church.

Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Galloway
and daughter, Brenda, flew in
their private plane to South
Carolina to spend the holidays
with their family.

Watch Night service will be
held at the Lake City Baptist
Tabernacle Thursday night,
Dec. 31, beginning at B:ls.Rev.
David York, pastor of the Har
rison Road Baptist Church will
be the guest speaker. There
will be other speakers, good
music and refreshments. Fri
ends and neighbors are invited
led at the base of each tier.
A gold bell rested on the top.
Mrs. R. L. Mathis cut the cake.
At the other end Mrs. Dean
Rabitsch served punch from a
large silver bowl. Mrs. Mathis
and Mrs. Rabitsch are grand
daughters. Fifty yellow roses,
a gift from friends, centered
the table.
Other lovely gifts were recei
ved by this couple from their
admiring friends and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Starr, the for
mer Georgia E. Brown, were
married on Dec. 24, 1914, at
the home of Pitt Adamson in
Rex. They have lived in Clay
ton County all of their married
life. To this union were born
two daughters, Mrs. J.R. John
son and Mrs. J. O. Carter, Jr.,
of Morrow, and two sons, Har
old H. Starr and the late W.J.
Starr of Forest Park, eight
grandchildren and one great
grandchild.

Christmas night on a flight to
El Paso, Texas to attend the
Sun Bowl game. On the way they
stopped in Houston to visit
Carlton Vaughn’s oldest sister.
After the game they enjoyed a
trip into Old Mexico. This was
Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Vaughn’s
second trip to Old Mexico. They
returned home in time to cele
brate New Year with their fami
lies.
