FATHER’S PLACE
IN THE FAMILY
BY LEWIS LLEWELLYN
The father, under God’s plan for the organization of the family,
should have the dominant role. Within the family, he should
be the respected leader.
Father Is expected to provide more than food and shelter
and spending money. His is the responsibility for the disci
plining of the children, with the mother assisting in this most
necessary activity which Is so often neglected.
That the husband and father Is expected to be the head of
the house, in actuality rather than In theoretical position
only, is made clear by the Scripture which says, “Wives,
submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
For the husband Is the head of the wife, even as Christ Is the
head of the church. . . . Therefore, as the church is subject
unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in
everything.”
“LOVE YOUR WIVES”
However, the Bible goes on to say, “Husbands, love your
wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave Hlmsell
for it. . . . So ought men to love their wives.”
In the properly ordered household, the husband and father
occupies a position of respect and authority. The entire family
Is stronger and more secure when this is the case.
In too many instances, fathers have abdicated their respon
sibilities of maintaining discipline and of making decisions,
allowing and even encouraging their wives to take over these
duties.
The result lias been that the father’s place in the home has
been diminished, while discipline has been weakened and
children have been allowed to grow up without ever learn
ing the respect for authority which Is a basic necessity In
a well-ordered society.
MORE THAN MONEY
Father needs to provide more than the money needed for
the operation of the household. He needs to provide a good
example for his children to follow.
Children learn much more readily from example than from
precept. Therefore, it is not surprising that the younger
generation, In many Instances, Is following In the older genera
tion’s footsteps — especially adopting the vices which parents
wish their children would not copy—and Is making the same
mistakes, to their great harm and to the dismay of their
parents.
Still, In homes where father has his rightful place and where
he has fully accepted his responsibility, a bright ray of hope
gleajns.^ » , a
This Is especially true In homes where the father Is walk-
Ing.jn the say of the Lord. Ih^uch herpes, the father IStruly
giving Ids children an example which they may safely follow —
an example which will lead them aright throughout their lives,

J. C. Penney Company disclosed plans last week for build
ing Its second regional catalog distribution center,ln Clayton

The two million square foot, multi-million dollar facility—
which is scheduled to become operative In the fall of 1968—
will mark the department store chain’s latest moves in es

Pres. Ray H. Jordan said
the center will be con

$25-30 million.
The catalog center, a one

Jones Blasts Deficit Spending
G. Paul Jones, Republican candidate for Congress, blasted
Democrats who last week rammed through the House of Re
presentatives another LBJ increase in the National Debt
Limit.
Sixth District Congressman T ''*' n T Flvnt failed to vote on
this measure.
In a speech before the Clayton
County Republican Executive
Committee Saturday night,
Jones stated, “Our present
White House-controlled con
gressman has voted consistent
ly for the big spending of this
administration — big spending
which has made the cost of
living soar and has contributed
to the decline of the dollar.
“However, in a critical elec
tion year, caught in the squeeze
between pressure from LBJ
on the one side and knowing how
his voting constituents feel on
the other, the present congress
man runs for cover and chooses
not to vote at all. If enough
so-called conservative Demo
crats had voted for economy in
government, the big spending
of the Johnson-Humphrey ad
ministration would have been
reduced.”
Charging that the present con
gress has set a new record for
uncontrolled spending, Jones
exclaimed, “Do you realize
what this has done to our eco
nomy? Inflation has taken 14
cents out of every dollar you
earn, compared to 1960 when
this spendorama began.”
Jones pointed out that the
National Debt Limit Is now a
staggering $330 billion, and the
interest on this debt is sl2
billion per year. It is the se
cond largest item in the budget,
and it will increase “SBO mil
lion by this latest venture Into
inflationary deficit financing by
the Great Society.”
Jones reminded the en
thusiastic audience that the
President promised a surplus
this year with no budget defi
cit. “LBJ has asked Congress
for a truth-in-packaging bill
for the products the public buys.
What is needed,” Jones said,
“is atruth-in-packagingblllfor
the budget he is trying to sell
the public.
“President Johnson recently
said that the deficit for next
year will be lyss t^an $2 bil
lion, This is still a tremen
dous figure. However, how does
this smaller deficit figure come
about? By economy in Govern
ment? Hardly, for spending is up
$6.2 billion. Federal employ
ment is up nearly 94,000. The
Federal Government is on a
massive spending spree. You
will get the hangover in the form
of tax increases, debt Increases
and Inflation that eat away at
your paycheck.”
Jones said the manipulation of
budget figures is merely “ho
cus-pocus designed to cover up
a real frenzy of spending. But
the real deception being prac
ticed by President Johnson and
his monetary jugglers,” Jones
continued, “is a series of one
shot deals that will make this
year’s budget look good, but will
not be a permanent part of the
Federal financial system.
“ For example, just recently he
rammed through Congress what
he called the Participation Sales
Act. This is a clever way of
spending more without having
it show up in the budget. The
government simply borrows
money against its assets. It
spends the money, and then it
pays back the principal and in
terest with more of your tax
dollars.
“There are many other gim
micks being used tn «mhi»
down this year’s deficit. Your
paycheck was cut during May,
and will be less during the rest
of the year because LBJ wants
to collect more money in ad
vance to make this year’s de
ficit seem smaller. You are
making an interest-free loan
to the Government. By turning
out copper coins Instead of sil
ver, and by taking more out of
your paycheck, the Treasury
will realize added revenues of
$5 billion. These are just mani
pulations. They are designed to
cloak the wild spending by LBJ
In this election year.
Jones said the President keeps
talking about increasing taxes
Flynt Cites Seniority

John J, Flynt, Jr., qualifying

the growth and development of
the Sixth District of Georgia,
he points out,
“I emphasize the enactment
of the one-price cotton act,
which means increased wages
and earnings for the largest
group of Georgia people” he
states. “This started as alone
some fight when Jack Flynt was
in his first year in Congress.lt
had little support in Congress
and none at the White House.
“The two-price cotton system
from 1953-1961 shackled the
textile industry and kept tex

bondage,
“The enactment of the one

wages to the national average of
all industrial workers,
“If is stood alone, the enact

act is a record to be proud
of. This was enacted April 8,
1964, 211—203, Os the 211 af
firmative votes, 202 were De
