people who run the summer
canning plant at the Atlanta State
Farmers® Market,
And this year the canning plant
i{s streamlining its operations
and hours so that more people
can ‘‘can” fresh fruits and
vegetables right where theybuy
them at the world’s largest
farmers’ market, Market Man=
ager Sam Steele sald in an=
nouncing the Cannery’s official
opening on June 16th,
¢Last summer, we were open
mornings and closed down by
4:30 p.m,” he sald, ‘‘but now
the canning plant will be open
from 2 o’clock in the after=
noon until 10 o’clock at night,
This will give housewives a
chance to ‘can’ during the day,
And young couples will be able
to come out in the cool of the
evening and ‘can’ fresh fruits
and vegetables, Os course, the
plant will be open on Saturday
from 8 a.m, until 3 p.m, for
week=-end convenience,’?

Presents Gift at PTA Coffee
The Forest Park Junior High School Parent-Teacher Associ
ation entertained for the staff and faculty at a coffee held
recently in the school's cafetorium,
The Forest Park Woman's Club, deeply appreciative of their
support and devotion during the school year, presented the
faculty with a book of poems entitled ‘‘Georgia Poetry."
The club’s Education chajrman, Mrs, Homer Parker, made
the presentation to Principal Mack Jennings, who accepted
the gift in behalf of the faculty, Mrs, Parker is also the
school’s PTA president. The coffee was arranged and served
by the hospitality committee, headed by Mrs. W, R. Mize,
white sweetheart roses and pink
carnations,
Little Sonja Lewis, niece of the
bride, was flower girl and
Wesley Bowers ring-bearer,
James F, Oswalt was his son’s
best man, Knights of the Aisle
included Billy Oswalt, brother
of the groom, Jim O’Bryan and

The bride’s father gave her

dal gown of white Chantilly lace
and silk organza, The high rise
bodice of beaded lace featured
a scalloped Sabrina neckline
and long sleeves ending in a
point over the hand, The full
detachable chapel trainof bead=
ed Chantilly lace gave a
redingote effect over the 2
line skirt, Her bouffant veil of

Charges are minimual: 7 cents
per can which includes the can=
ning processing.
Available at 50¢ abushel is the
pea and butter bean shelling
machine, It will be in operation
during the new Cannery hours
as well as 7n Sunday afternoons
from 2 until 6 p.m,
¢“We hope more folks will make
use of the cannery at the Far=
mers’ Market this summer,”
Mr. Steele said. “It’s a con=
venience we had built-in at the
Market so that the consumer as
well as the farmer could take
full advantage of our fine fresh
fruit and vegetable facility.”
The Cannery, open during the
summer months when Georgla
produce is at its peak, hires
college and high school stu=-
dents for part-time work, he
sald,

Kenyons Return From
Exciting Trip To West

to see the beautiful fruit or=
chards and, nut groves apd
through the Sequoia National
Poérest Wwhérd the large réde
woods grow. In Portland they
visited the rhododendron teste=
ing gardens, a gorgeous dis=-
play of all colors of this plant
in bloom., Also in Peninsula
Park, in the heart of the city,
were 15,000 rose bushes in full
bloom, a never-to-be-forgotten
sight, Portland is called the
¢City of Roses” and have a
Rose Festival each year, an
outstanding event, They went as
far north as Vancouver, Brie
tish Columbia and visited Stane
ley Park there,
Points of interest on the re=
turn trip included The Dalles
Dam, located between Wash=
ington and Oregon on the Co=~
lumbia River and is the loca=
tion of the fish ladders that
the salmon climb to go up
stream to spawn, There was
still quite a bit of snow at
Crater Lake in Oregon with
drifts twenty feet high when
they visited there, In Lassen
Park, of volcanic origin, there
were many bofling sulphur
springs. One day In Tijuana,
Mexico gave a view of life
South of the Border,
On their return trip they visite
ed Salt Lake City and the Tem=
ple Square where they saw the
famous organ in the Mormon
Temple, Traveling through
Kansas they missed the tornado
in Topeka by one day but views=
ed the destruction it left, A
stopover in Kansas City, Mise
souri, and Rogers, Arkansas
afforded a visit to childhood
friends and in Oxford, Missis=
sippi, an opportunity to see Mrs,
Kenyon's birthplace, She was
born on the campus of Uni=
versity of Mississippi. All to=
gether they covered over nine
thousand miles on their trip,

tlon, a non-profit, educational
foundation with national offices
in Chicago, has moved its South=
eastern area office to Atlanta,
Leslie Paul, Southeastern area
director, will have his office in
the Atlanta Public Library.
