FAYETTEVILLE BLUE DEVILS OF JIM THORPE LEAGUE
LOOP LEAD TO
GREEN HORNETS
A 35-yard run that set up the
first touchdown and an 85-yard
run for the second touchdown by
Jackie Germany gave the Green
Hornets a 13 to 0 victory over
Jonesboro and first place in the
race for the Jim Thorpe Lea
gue championship. Mike Park
erson capped Germany’s first
quarter run with a 5-yard touch
down scamper and that was all
the scoring for the night.
The Jonesboro Yellow Jacket’s
single wing offense kept the
Green Hornets off balance most
of the game, but could not get
a sustained drive going long
enough to score.
Back at Forest Park the Bull
dogs enjoyed their first vic
tory of the season by a score
of 13 to 0 over the Colts. Avery
Panthers And Jackets Tie
The 75-lb. Panthers wrestled
the Southwest DeKalb Yellow
Jackets to a scoreless tie Sa
turday at the Forest Park Ki
wanis Stadium.
Still undefeated In the DeKalb
league play, the “Little Cats”
have two ties this season, which
could affect their chances for
the championship. Neither team
came close to scoring in a
fine defensive battle. The Cats
gained a total of 76 yards on
offense in 39 plays while their
Chinese Bandit defense allowed
the Yellow Jackets a total of 41

Cason, Ricky VHlano and Wayne
Hayes kept the Colts busy try
ing to stop a real fine running
attack that produced the two
touchdowns.
The Blue Devils came alive
in the fourth quarter against
Fayetteville after three score
less quarters and outgunned
them 19 to 6, It was too much
speed and a good passing attack
that finally wore down Fayette
ville.

yards in 28 plays. Outstanding
for the Panthers on defense
were Ricky Ratliff, Preston
Parish, Greg King, Donnie
Gray, David Florence and Steve
Malcom.
While the defensive unit has ■
continued to improve each week
the Panther offense has beer,
very erratic. Ricky Porter’s
20-yard end sweep In the third
quarter was the only good of
fensive play of the day.
This Saturday at 6 p.m. the
Cats will journey to Murphy
Candler Park to take on the
undefeated North Atlanta Colts.
’Skins Bow,
Next Meet
N. Decatur
Last Saturday night the Red
skins and many supporters tra
veled to Gresham Park to meet
the DeKalb Yellow Jackets, hop
ing we could dislodge the Yel
low Jacket “nest.” However,
they proved to be a very strong
team and the Redskins could not
contain them.
During the first half the Jack
ets scored two touchdowns. The
Redskins fought valiantly and In
the closing minutes of the first
half Hudlow passed to Slagle
for the only score. The try
for PAT failed. The Jackets
came back to score twice more
during the final half.
Even though the Redskins lost,
It was an exciting game. There
were good defensive plays for
both teams, pass Interceptions,
fumbles and recoveries. The
score of 27-6 does not tell all.
There will be a home game
this Saturday at 8 p.m. when
the Redskins meet North De
catur. We hope you will con
tinue to support us.

Jesus said, "I am come that
ye might have life and have it

midst of victories and joys.
Christ is a living reality and
His presence is that which can

When we have had such a Joy
