Panthers Give Griffin Fight
BY TOMMY MULLENX
A flock of high-flying Eagles
from Griffin flew out of For
est Park a notch or two lower
after their contest with the
hungry and surprising Panthers
from Forest Park, last Fri
day night before an overflowing
crowd at Kiwanis Field.
Going into the game ranked
sixth in all of Georgia and plan
ning to make an easy meal of
the Cats, Griffin was pushed
to the brink of defeat before
squeezing by 18-14,
Carl Madison’s charges
fought them to a 0-0 stand
still in the first half but the
powerful invaders broke the
ice in the third period when
Vance snared a pass from
Steve Goodroe and rambled
31 yards to a score. Forest
Park came back with a
touchdown by Steve Morse
on a 43-yard dash and a
point to go ahead, 7-6,
whereupon the Griffins
rammed across their second
score when Phillips crossed
from three yards out. Forest
Park blocked the point-after
attempt and it was 12-7.
In the fourth quarter,
Rohn grabbed a Panther
aerial out of the air and
sped 75 yards to paydirt to
make it 18-7.
A little razzle dazzle put
Forest Park ahead in the third
quarter after a scoreless first
half as Bill Morse dropped
back to punt but Instead non
chalantly hid the ball behind
his back as the Griffin defen
ders went racing by trying to
tackle a ball-less carrier.

on, Morse scampered 45 yards
Into paydirt with no one laying
a hand on him. Morse booted
the PAT and Forest Park led
the great Eagles, 7-6.
Griffin came back with two
quick tallies, however, as they
put the game out of reach late
In the fourth quarter. Forest
Park proved It came to play
as the Cats drove the length
of the field late In the game
and scored on a7-yd. pass from
Kidd to Tommy Hutto. After
Morse added the point the final
score of 18-14 was on the board.
Throughout the game Forest
Park looked the superior team
as they rolled up twice the
number of first downs. How
ever costly penalties, four In
tercepted passes by the alert
Eagle defense, and the tradi
tional Griffin breaks kept For
est Park from pulling the big
gest upset of the weekend.
The loss dropped the Parkers
mark to 3-2 and 3-1 in region
play. Tomorrow night sees the
