ily reunion in Baxley. Georgia.
There were around 100 relatives
present.
Mrs. Louellla Hulsey and
daughter. Mrs.’ Pat Johnson are
home after a trip to Columbia,
S. C. to visit her son, Bobby,
who has been ill in the Veteran's
hospital in Columbia. While
there they attended the funeral
of an uncle. Bobby and his bride
are making their home in Flor
ence, S C.
Mrs. Leah Hill of Atlanta, was
weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs.

I Springs where in 1912 Mr. Tur
ner graduated frdm A. M. school,
and this was a gathering of the
alumni for dinner in th main

Graduation Class of 1912 hov
ered very closely over the as
। sembly, and many were the
j memories which were talked
over, and enjoyed.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce B. Diggs
of 150 Mitchel Street have been
visiting Vogal State Park re
cently and had a wonderful time
t here.
Mayor and Mrs. J. K. Curry
and Susan have been having a
double vacation. The first part
was spent at Daytona Beach and
there their guests were nieces
Helen Swanson of Hendrix Drive
and Peggy Ann Baker of Warner
St. Not only did the party en
joy swimming and the delightful
Beach at Daytona but they vis
ited lots of interesting places
around. They came home just
long enough to drop off Helen
and Peggy Ann, then with their
party increased to include this
time, Mr. and Mrs. John Curry,
Mr. and Mrs. Price and family
and J. L. Baker and Mr. and Mrs.
W. M. Curry, Sr. they were off
again. This trip took them to
the mountains, and to Chatta
hoochee National Forest whore
on a hundred acre estate, gen
erations of the Crawfords’ (Mrs
Curry's family tree) lived. Rail
I cnees enclosed a log cabin, all
at least 100 years old are still
standing In a condition which
| will not be too difficult to re
| store, now that the estate has

of their friends to help them en
joy some good fresh water fish.

there, Mrs. Piper answered, “Just
stretched out, drank in that cool
air ,and enjoyed the scenery.”
Then she added, “That rest was
the best ever.”
Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Durden of
Mimosa Drive have also been at
Lake Raybun for a week, during
which their cabin was “home” to
visitors Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Yar
boro of Forest Park, who spent
a couple of days with them. The
Pipers also looked them up.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Uffner and
the children have left the Ash.

University where Mr. Uffner is
attached to the Administrative
Staff. Their many friends in
Forest Park will miss them very
much, and want them to know
they have taken with them all
good wishes for success and hap
piness in their new home.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Goss of

py to entertain Mr. Goss' mother,
Mrs. Estelle Goss for a week-end
recently. Mrs. Goss, Sr. Ilves at
Dublin, Ga.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Yancey
and daughter Kathy of 144
Spring Valley Dr. have just re
turned from the second part of
their vacation. But let's go with
them on the first part, which
took them to the East Coast of
Florida, to Jacksonville, and
down as far as Daytona, taking
in all the loveliness between. The
Atlantic Ocean which can be so
wild and rough behaved like a
little lady for them, making their
visit a real joy. Now home for
a brief week-end before a visit
to Cincinnati, Ohio and Mrs.
Yancey’s parents and family.
And tlie week they spent there
was all too short for Kathy, at
least, who just loved “finding”
again, another Grandma.
If you were at Ida Cason Cal
loway Gardens last Tuesday, you
might have Seen a very happy
little boy. Happy because-he was
playing in the waler. Mummy
and Daddy helping him to swim,
happy building sand castles on
the beachi having a picnic,
driving through those pretty
gardens, riding on that cute lit
tle train and all the other won
derful things that can ha'ppen
to a little boy. It could be any
little boy. but it was Alan, small
son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin
Burks.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Paterson
were hosts last Sunday evening
(August 12( at a hamburger sup
per at their home. Their guests
were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lee. Mr.
and Mrs. Terrell Starr and chil
dren and Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Worsham. The cool and lovely
surroundings were a welcome
setting after a torrid day.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Waldrop',
Jr., with Michael and Shirley
have returned recently from a
visit to St. Augustine. They made
headquarters at Vilano Beach
and from there visited Marine
land, much to the delight of the
kids, who were thrilled with the
sights there. Guess they would
have liked to bring home at
least one of those porpoises that
“showed off” for them. It was
a grand holiday.
Visiting in Forest Park for a
few days recently were Mr, and
Mrs. Hackney and sons. Timmy
and Tommy of Lincoln. Ala. Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Walden of Phil
lips Drive we're hosts part of
the time, and part was spent
with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carter
on Main greet. A barbecue at
the Carter home saw all these
old friends enjoying the good
food and good companionship
together.
The many friends of Mrs. J. D.
Bartlett. Main Street are happy
to know she is home from St.
Joseph's Hospital, and is making
good progress.
Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Shell
nut, lately of Forest Park and
now living in their lovely new
home at Lovejoy, are happy to
have with them their daughter
and son-in-law. Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Brant. Mr. Brant is at
tached to the army and their
present home is in Norfolk. Vir
ginia. Mrs. Brant (Jean) has
had much pleasure in contact-

onstration meeting was held at
Jones Memorial First Methodist
Church on Thursday of' last
ing former friends here. On
Wednesday (15th) her parents
gave’ a fried chicken-with-all
the-trimmings supper for her
and her husband. Guests in
cluded Mr. and Mrs. Lee Piper,
Mr. and Mrs. W, Moye*and Stan
ley, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Anderson
and Joe, and Miss Jo Anne Law
son. Last Friday the visiting
couple were entertained at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Piper
in Decatur, with Mr. and Mrs.
W. Moye.
Ralph Ackles has just returned
from a 10-day business trip to
Florida. Now he and Mrs, Ack
les are off to West Virginia
where they will visit Charleston
and son Ralph B. his wife and
family, then Clarksburg and
Richwood will get a share of
their time as they visit well
loved friends of former days.
Washington, D. C. and the Smok
ies will also get a share in mak
ing this a vacation long to be
remembered.
Mr. and Mrs. V. H. Burks had
the pleasure of a visit last week
end from an old school room
mate of Mrs. Burks. She is Mrs.
Ralph Bevis of Homestead, Ela.
The ladles were both delighted
to have this time together, to
talk of those other days. Mrs. W.
C. Burks (mother of Volley) has
just returned from a visit to her
sister, Mrs. Lote Roundtree in
Riverdale.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Banks of
South Avenue were guests last
Friday nght at the 25th wedding
anniversary of their friends. Mr.
and Mrs. W. D. Flynn of East
Point. This was the highlight
of a day of visits and calls from
the Flynn's large circle of friends
and had been arranged for them
by their daughters. A happy
ending to a most happy day.
Mrs. Billy Nolan was pleased
to honor her nephew, Billy Bar
ton, son of Mrs. J. M. Barton
and the late Mr. Barton, with a
steak barbecue at her home. The
occasion was the departure on
Thursday of Bill for Fort Jack
son to commence his National
Service in the Army. Present at
the Tuesday night gathering in
his honor, were his mother, Mrs.
J. M. Barton. Mr. and Mrs. W. M.
Currey, Jr., and Miss Charlotte
Lopez.
Two young cousings took a
short vacation together last
week. Scotty and Mike Barton
went to visit with Auntie Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Blount (broth
er) and family, and Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Robertson (sister) and
family. Now to Washington, D.
C. and the famous Parkway
Drive before a leasurely drive
home.
Dr. and Mrs. George Christian
and the children are home after
a wonderful holiday in Florida
To ensure all the coolness pos
sible for the kids, they did con
siderable night driving, with
those kids taking a lot of rest
in the station wagon. Don the
West Coast to New Port Richey
to visit Grandma Powers, Mrs.
Christian’s grandma, that is,
Great-Grandma for the children
Then they cut across the coun
try to Daytona Beach—and were
joined there by another grand
ma. Mrs. G. Christian. Sr. and
another veis dear friend, Grand
ma's sister, Miss Blanche Jar
rett. Shore and sea alike held
untold joys for all the family.
It was a grand vacation.

Forest Park, have recently re
turned from their vacation in
Gainesville. Florida. While there
they visited Mr. Coggin’s uncle.

CELEBRATES
7TH BIRTHDAY
Susan, 7 year old daughter of
Mrs. Billy Nolan and the late
Mr. Nolan, was delighted with
the party arranged for her
birthday celebration. It was a
visit to “Storyland” and the de
lights she and Her little guests
found there were just wonder
ful. First there was a lovely
birthday cake in the “Birthday
House,” then lots of fun with the
swings, merry-go-rounds, and
slides in the playground, and
then came the best part of all.
A trip through the Trail of Fairy
Tale Land. Cinderella was there,
and Jack and Jill, and most all
the Fairy Tale folk. Helping
Susan enjoy all this were Jan
and Kay Carter, Jackie Waldrop,
Martha Backy and Mary Linda
Curry, Julie Barton and little
brother Tommy. Also present
were Mrs. I. W. Donald and
Auntie Susan Nolan, for whom
Susan was named.

Jean attended Mr. Beasley’s class
reunion at Madison. Georgia, on
Sunday of last week.
Mrs. K. C. Townsend of Chat
tanooga, Tennessee, has been
staying with Mrs. Marvin Huck
aby and family while Mr. Huck
aby is convalescing from a re
cent operation.
Mr. and Mrs. Connie Keltner
of St. Petersburg, Florida, made
a surprise visit to Dr. and Mrs.
Wm. Flynn and family last Sun
day.
Sgt. and Mrs. Bob Kerr en
tertained at a hamburger fry’ at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.
H. Duffey, Sr. last Saturday
night. The guests were Mr. and
Mrs. Lynwood Travis, Mr. and
Mrs. George Bauer, Miss Rose
mary Duffey, Mr. and Mrs E. H.
Duffey, Jr.. Mr. and Mrs. W. H.

ent. Mrs. Paul Shackelford,
President, was in charge and the
ladies concentrated on the com
pletion of the weaved TV snack
trays on which they had worked.
A covered dish luncheon was en
joyed, and the after-lunch dis
cussion centered on plans for
the Fair. Mrs. Singleton. County
Agent, was able to tell the la-1
dies much about former Fair ex
hibits, and gave a general idea
of the requirements to be met.
The next meeting will be on the I
third Thursday in Sptember. I

suitable games, ice cream and
stork decorated cakes were en
joyed in surroundings which had
a color scheme of pink and

LOVEJOY SOCIALS
The Lovejoy Baptist Church
will begin a series of Evangelistic
Services on August 26th, through
September Ist. Rev. Lidell Phil
ips, Evangelist and his brother,
Mack Philips, who will lead the
singing will start the services
each evening at 7:30 o’clock. The
public is invited to attend. Rev.
Leonard Quick is Pastor of the
church.
The members of New Hope
Sunday school enjoyed an ice
cream party at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Sidney Betsill on Sat
urday night. Around forty mem
bers attended this outing.
Thomas Murphy, Thomas Har
per and Billy Little spent a
weekend recently on a fishing
trip down to Carrabelle, Florida.
Deepest sympathy is extended
to the Cater family in the death
of L. O. Cater.
The many friends of Arthur
Dixon regret to learn that he is
ill, in Emory University Hos
pital and all wish for him a
speedy recovery.
The New Hope W. S. C. S. met
on Thursday, August 17th, at the
home of Mrs. Pearl Sowell. The
meeting opened wifti a devotion
al by Mrs. Mary Bailey, Presi
dent. Mrs. Sowell, who is Pro
gram Chairman, presented the
members who gave their parts.
Mrs. Bailey conducted the busi
ness session of the meeting.
Sixteen members were present at
this meeting. A social hour was
enjoyed bv everyone after which
delicious refreshments were
served.
