Mr. J. L. McCullough of 424
Ballard Rd. is feeling both lucky
and grateful. While shopping last
week she droped a S2O bill and
though she reported her loss to
the Store, well ■ ! And then
her luck changed. She had it
returned to her. And her grati
tude goes to Mrs, Kelly of North
Lake Drive, who was so delight
ed to be the one to change Mrs.
McCullough’s luck, she could not
even be persuaded to take the
offered award.
Visiting in the district and in
Atlanta is Mr. and Mrs. H. B.
Starr, now living at St. Peters
burg. Fla. Mr. Starr was before
ho retired. Post Office Super
intendant at Station A West End,
and is, with his wife, happy to
be in his old district with friends
and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. E.
W Starr (brother) of Mirror Lake
Road have been hosts for part
of this visit.
Mr. and Mrs. V. H. Burks were
happy to have for dinner last
Wednesday, friends and relatives
from Florida, East Point and
Jonesboro. Sisters of Mrs. Burks
from Jonesboro are Mrs. 11. C.
Piper and Mrs. R. F. Tollman,
and from East Point came the
Ralph Morgans' and the J. Hicks'
families. Visitor from Home
stead Fla. was Mrs. Ralph Bevis.
Mr. and Mt^. Richard Haynie
and David and Mr. and Mrs. M
R. (Buzz) Stone and Sybil have
been taking a vacaHon from the
heat up in the mountains. Last
week they were "camping” at
the Haynie cabin in Cleveland,
and enjoying every minute of it.
Stephnie and Bobby Stansel of
North Avenue are so glad that
Grandma, Mrs. W N. Stephens
could spend a few days last week
with them. Grandma has just
been to Florida for a vacation
and will be going on to her home
in Atlanta very soon. In the
meantime she is a very welcome
visitor at the Stansel home.
Mrs. Elzie D Speir of Conley
Road is at Georgia Baptist Hosp
ital for surgery. Rev. Speir is
the Pastor at The Primitave
Baptist, Church here and mem
bers and friends will be wishing
for Mrs. Speir a speedy and
complete recovery.
Butch (Douglas) Davis is 111 at
Crawford Long Hospital. Cheer
up, Butch, all your friends are
hoping to see you home soon.
And in the best of health Now
don't let them down — keep
your chin up, and make it soon.
Butch is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
F. L. Davis and lives at Murray
Lake.
Last week-end was a happy
one for Mr. and Mrs. J L. Pop
pell of Conley Road. Mrs. Pop
pell’s brother Hanaford B. Mar
shall with his wife and familv
and niece Miss Marie Barnes all
of Taylorsville N C. were their
visitors and the visit was much
enjoyed by all.
Mr. ami Mrs. R. B. Sanford
and son. Jimmy, spent last week
in Miami. Florida, where they
visited friends • and relatives.
They reported that the weather
was fine. Mr. Sanford is employ
ed by Delta Air Lines. Mrs. San
ford is the former Miss Frances
Mitchell of F:r?sr mv.’t.
Mr. and Mrs Fred Black have
returned to their home at Mor
row. after a journey which had
a sad and tragic reason. They
attended, in Milton, Tenn., the

funeral of their young nephew,
William Dennie Black, age 17
years, victim of a traffic accid
ent. Dennie, a boy with hosts of
friends, is the second son to be
lost to his parents and family.
His brother was killed during the
Korean War. We extend our
sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Fred
ily. With them went Grandma
J. E. Smith and Grandma C. S.
Haynie, and the two elder ladies
were happy to rest amid the
wonderful scenery, while Roland
and Richard tried to see if Moth
er and Dad could keep up with
them climbing those mountains,
and visiting all the interesting
places they could find. Thon the
party came home briefly, leaving
grandmas at their respective
homes, and then to Jackson Lake,
for a grand finish. Boating,
swimming, fishing — and wond
ering why time goes so fast on
Black and to the family.
Miss Lynn Williams, elder
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Williams will shortly leave
her home on Elizabeth Dr. to!
take up residence with Grand-1
mother. Mrs. Lynch Turner of
Newman. Lynn will enter New
man High School at the com
mencement of the September
term and continue there till she
graduates. Her hosts of friends
among the College Street school
pupils will be sorry to lose such
a charming and pretty cpllegue.
Sister Virginia and Daddy are
glad Newnan is close, enough to
be with Lynn very often. Good
Luck, Lynn.
Gatlinburg, Tenn was the cool
spot, chosen for part of their
vacation by the J. W. Smith fam
such occasslons.
Two sisters, Mis. Roy Boggus
and Mrs Roy Parr both of Bart
lett Road, Forest Park, went to
Daytona Beach recently for the
wedding of their niece, Miss Peg
gy Ann Johnson. It was a Friday
till Monday visit for the ladies,
with the wedding taking most
of the time. Still they managed
to enjoy some of that wonder
ful beach and sea. and enjoyed
the 'brcpk' so much.
Last Week brought very wel
come visitors to Sgt. and Mrs.
David Evans of North Avenue.
Daughter Mrs. Douglas Broderick
and grandaughter Susan are here
for 10 days or so while Daddy
is at Puerto Rico, on a business
trip. The Brodericks’ live In
Mobile. Ala. and Susan was very
happy to bring Mother to Grand
ma’s on the train. You see, Susan
has already taken a train ride.

Engagement Told
Mr. and Mrs. Burl Humphrey,
of Clarksville, Texas, announce
the engagement of their daugh
ter, Janice Ruth Humphrey, to
Julian Wilson, Jr., son of Rev
and Mrs. Julian Wilson, of For
est Park.
The bride elect is a graduate
of Clarksville High School and
her fiancee is a graduate of Pas
j chai High School in Fort Worth,
; Texas. He is now an employee
of the Western Electric Com
pany in Atlanta.
The wedding will take place
Friday, August 31, 7:30 p. m., at
the First Baptist Church of For
est Park.
After a brief trip to Chatta
nooga, Tennessee, the couple will
reside in Mountain View.
The wedding party will con

rey, sister of the bride, serving
as Maid of Honor, and David
Luke Wilson, brother of the
bridegroom, will be best man.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Grayson were
hosts last week-end to guests
from Chattanooga, Tennessee.

serving in France until recently.'
It was a return "home” for
Rev. and Mi s. Hubert Dodd of I
Forsyth when they came to spend '
a few days with Mrs. R. O. Bar
nette at her home on Barnette
Road. Rev. Dodd was Pastor of,
the Jones Memorial First Meth
odist Church at one time, and |
the friendship begun then has ■
endured through the years be-'
tween. It was a happy visit for
all.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bowden of
Louisiana have been visiting
parents, the Richard Bowden’s
at their home on Richlo Drive,
recently. After a trip to Gatlin
burg. Tenn, they will return here
for a few more days before going
home.
Mrs. Pat Patterson and Marcia
are in LeGrange visiting with
Mrs. Patterson’s parents for a
few days, while Pat is at camp
with the Football Club.
Mrs. Terrel Starr was host
Wednesday the 15th when Mrs.
Juanita Bowlden and Mrs. Car
olyn Nipper were her guests for
lunch. And of course, the child
ren too.
Wednesday, last week saw a
happy group of friends enjoying
lunch and good fellowship to
gether. They are Mrs. Margaret
Guice, Mrs. Celeste Starr, Miss
Joe Diggs, Mrs. Margaret Diggs.

sham. The men were leaving
Monday for camp with the Foot
ball Club, so they had a get
tgether before starting off.

CLUB LUNCHEON
AT DWARF HOUSE
The August meeting of the
May Davis Garden Club was de
voted to the Annual Luncheon
on Tuesday, August 21st. The
Dwarf House, Forest Park, with
their usual charming service was
chosen for this pleasant occasion
and a splendid meal was much
enjoyed by 20 members and 2
guests present. Guests were Mrs.
Jerry Berry and Mrs. R. D. Shel
ton. Members present were Mes
dames A. L. Barnette (President),
Roy, Grayson, Fred Black, Fred
Lee, Fred Jobson, Parker Brown,
V. H. Burks,-(Velma Lee, Mary
Leiupo, J. H. Smith, J. W. Mc-

The only “business” was a vote
of thanks to the manager, and
Mrs. Gladys Garr and Mrs.
Louise Creel (staff) who so ably
did their part to make this
luncheon so successful.

Farewell Party
For The Warrens
Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Walden of
244 Phillips Dr. were hosts last
Friday night to a group of
friends who met together to
wish God speed to two young
people who are leaving Forest
Park to make their home in
Rocky Mountain, N. C. where
Walter Warren has been trans
ferred. Mr. and Mrs. Warren
will be sadly missed by their
friends, their Church, and by
all who have had the pleasure
of knowing them. They are
members of Jones Memorial First
Methodist Church, and have
been pillars of support in all the
work there. Eileen has been a
Sunday School teacher for some
years, has been a staunch mem
ber of the W. S. G. and was presi
dent. Walter Is a member of
the Official Board, a member of
the Commission on Education,
Superintendent Youth Division^
Chief Courfcilor M. Y. F. and
Treasurer of the Methodist Men’s
Club. This fine couple with their
tithes were among the heaviest
contributors to the financial
budget of the church.
Those attending the party
were Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Aven,
Mr. and Mrs. William Haynie^
Mr. and Mrs. Angus Steel, Mr’
and Mrs. “Buz” Stone, Mr. and
Mrs. Luther Spivey, Mr. and

the hosts and the honorees.
Walter and Eileen take with
them most sincere good wishes
for the future—and the hope
that some day they may return
to their host of friends in For

LAKE CITY CLUB
PLANS PROJECTS
FOR BLDG. FUND
The August meeting of the
Lake City Improvement Club
was held ori Friday evening, the
10th.
Plans were made to sell Christ
mas cards, also, for a chicken
or turkey supper in the near
future, time and place to be an
nounced later. These projects are
for the benefit of the building
fund.
Twenty three members enjoy
ed cokes and cookies and a fel
lowship hour after the meeting.
