N. Clayton School Board
Makes Recommendations
Members of the Board of
Trustees of North Clayton
Schools held their spring meet-
I ing to make plans and recom
mendations to County School
Superintendent J. E. Edmonds.
Present were Board members
Mrs. Trudy Boswick, Roy Han
cock. Charles Hughes and Carey
Webb, and Chairman M. E. Mc-
Michen, the principals E. W. Oli
। ver and W. H. Faver, and County
Board representatives S. I.
' Wooten and Lowell Northcutt.
A copy of the minutes follows:
J. E. Edmonds, County School
Superintendent
Clayton County Board of
Education
Dear Sir:
At our last meeting of the
Board of Trustees of North Clay
ton Schools the recommendation
of the principal that all teachers
be re-elected was voted approved.
Units of study and the total
curricula were discussed and fa
vorable opinion was expressed
for the ideas of requiring 18 units
for graduation and/or including
the Bth grade in high school and
requiring 22 units to graduate,
thus causing the pupil to select
more courses in academic areas
• they have no work and need
necessities.
To be sure that those who
have bee# charged with petty
thefts are given a chance • to
work, he has provided some
work himself, and he has en
listed the assistance of other
citizens to provide work.
Judge Kemp could use a lot of
assistance because there have
been a lot of juvenile break-ins
and robberies this year. Anyone
who has farmland that needs
working or other odd jobs for
idle hands—some of the boys
really appear in real need —it
would be a service that would
probably pay off in helping to
rehabilitate many young people.
If anyone ip in a position to
help, Judge Kemp would appre
ciate a call at his office in Jones
boro.

such as science and math.
The lunchroom program was
discussed. The increased price of
lunches (25c) and the bountiful
supply of government surplus ■
has completely eradicated our '
indebtedness and allowed for[
purchase of new equipment. We 1
request the county to pay for the !
small installation charge on our
new serving counter when de
livered.
The report on the financial
condition of the School Activities
Fund was good. We commend the
county for its auditing system
and our secretary for a most ex
cellent set of books.
In discussing the county build
ing program, especially the new
elementary building here, we
recommend that toilet facilities!
be provided in both Ist and
2nd grades if at all possible.
Accrediting was discussed and
the reasons for our “probation
ary status” was explained.
We have several pressing needs
: which we wish to recommend the
: Board to act favorably so as to
accomplish by next September’s
, school opening.
■ First, since we will be even
1 more overcrowded in the high
school one method which wall be
helpful of relieving these condi
tions will be lockers for the chil
dren to keep books and personal
belongings. This will relieve
much confusion in classrooms,
corridors, library, etc.
Secondly, that one workman
'and materials be supplied to Mr.
Carr so that the “white” build
ing can be put into respectable
living condition for this next
year.
Thirdly, that the floor of the
gym be sanded and the necessary
paints and brushes be supplied to
us that we may paint the seats
and refinish the floor.
Yours sincerely,
M. E. McMichen, Chairman
