JONESBORO HIGH STORY
School Has Steadily Grown
And Improved in Every Way
By Wayne Teague, Principal
For the past few years, Jonesboro High School has
steadily grown and improved in faculty, curriculum, facil
ities, extracurricula activities, and enrollment.
Enrollment has jumped from
350 in 1951 to 674 in 1958. The
high school fniilding of nineteen
rooms, completed in 1950, had an
annex of nine rooms added in
1954 to cope with this increase.
All rooms are used at present.
There is no unused space.
The class rooms are well
lighted, properly ventilated, and
comfortably equipped. Labora
tories for homemaking and
science are modern in every re
spect.
A modern gymnasium, with a
seating capacity of 1200 built a
few years ago, houses a basket
ball court, band rooms, glee club
studio "and a stage. Physical
education classes are held here
throughout the day.
From fourteen in 1950, the
number of teachers has increased
to twenty-seven in 1957 and the
present enrollment will call for
at least two additional ones the
next school year. Faculty mem
bers include nine with master’s
degrees; all others hold bach
elor’s and several are now study
ing toward master’s degrees.
Jonesboro prides itself in the
curriculum offered. In addition
to the required courses of study
in English social sciences,
mathematics, science and health,
electives are offered in lan

(homemaking, agriculture and
business education) industrial
