* Thursday night, February 19, at
the home of Mrs. Charles C.
Chafin on Shellnut Drive.
A resolution was passed pledg
ing our support to the forth

Fulton Hospital Fund. Mr. Jody
Brown recently talked to the
group outlining the plans that
had been laid for the campaign
and urging our support.
The vice-president, Mrs. De
ward N. Rice, presented a calen

month. This will include a small
party for the rushees to get ac

according to the grape-vine, it

To the Citizens and Tax
payers of Clayton County
Do you want a Clayton County hospital and
new jail and to hold your property taxes at the
1958 level?
If so, please help us raise approximately
$250,000 by signing a petition for a referendum
to raise this revenue.
Why let this revenue go to other counties
when we still have alcohol legally, as well as
illegally, with no revenue to speak of?
Do you want approximately 10% of the
qualified registered voters of this county to have
the say whether we do or do not have the above
revenue?
As you know we have approximately 45,-
000 population. What about the other 35,000
people who need and should have the things that
this revenue would provide?
Ask yourself these questions and go now
and register in order that you might help us raise
this revenue.

I see where Mr. Ed Echols was appointed to
the Water Board. I wonder if we will have to have
another straw ballot in order that the 10% of the
pressure groups can tell us when and who should
have water in Clayton County, with all due re
spects to the other members of the Board.
The used car business must have taken a
change for the worse, since Mr. Echols still has
time to help us run the county government, as I
understand pressing business was his reason for
resigning the commissioner's job. Or could it be
that Tarp needs his help in handling the monkey
he had on his back which he so gracefully tried
the group has had.
The president, Mrs. J. ’ B.
Smith, announced that there
will be a coffee on March 7 at
the Dinkier Plaza Hotel for the!
newly form e d Southeastern
States Council. This will be at
tended by all the officers from
the Forest Park chapter.
Those present were: Mrs. Ray
Brown, Mrs. Charles . Chafin,l
Mrs. Andrew Lewis, Mrs. Wen
dell, Norvelle, Mrs. W. L. Perry,
Mrs. John W. Simmons, Mrs.
Carroll Smith, Mrs. J. B. Smith,
Mrs. Charles Steed, Mrs. J. W.

Mrs. Seth Youngblood.

Founders' Day
Program Held
The North Jonesboro PTA held
its Founders’ Day Program Feb
ruary 10 with Mrs. Priscilla Dean
in charge of the program. She
conducted a most interesting
program on the beginning of
PTA work up to the present time
of North Jonesboro PTA accom
plishments. Dallas Peters, Mrs.
Dot Putnam, Mrs. Gladys Payne,
Mrs. Joe Coleman, Sam McCul
lough, Mrs. Louise Bunn, Mrs.
Melva Kodatt and Mrs. Doris
McCullough had an active part
in playing out the growth of
PTA work.
Mr. Murray, band leader, led
the group with an informal
group singing and got everyone
in the mood for the Founders’
Day Program.
Honored guests at the meeting
were first past PTA president,
Mrs. Louise Healey; second past
PTA president, Mrs. Virginia
Callaway, and present PTA pres
ident, Mrs. Hazel McEver. They
to pass on to the people in the form of a straw
ballot.
I notice where Mr. Banke has taken issue
with my mention of the costs of the Frank Adam
son trial. I regret this very much, and I think that
he should give us a certified audit accounting of
the cost of this trial in as much as he specified
the amount. My estimate was approximately
$15,000 to $20,000.
And I would like to also say that since you
were highly qualified for the solicitor's job when
you were asking me and the other people of Clay
ton County to vote for you, and you were also
county attorney, it seems to me that you could
have handled this trial without spending the tax
payers' money to employ outside assistance.
Could it be that the monkey that was in the
commissioner's office got loose and took up in
your office?

FRIENDSHIP CLUB
MEETS AT HOME
OF MRS. STARNES
Thursday night, February 5,
marked another meeting night
for the Friendship Club, which
was held at the home of Mrs.
Mary Starnes.
The meeting was called to or
der by the President, Mrs. Reba
Congdon. She then asked for
reports from all committees. It
was reported that Louise Britt
being transferred to Georgia
Hospital from Grady was still
very ill. Plans were made to of
fer our services to the Red Cross
one day a week, as help is badly
needed in that field.
The entertainment chairman,
Mrs. Janet Nunn, had everyone
to make and wear “crazy hats,”
which brought on a hilarious
evening.
There were some very original
ideas, and it was very hard to
judge which one would be the
winner. So it was decided to take
to secret ballot. Mrs. Bobbie
Dickinson took home the prize.
Movies were made of all hats.
Refreshments were served by
our gracious hostess, Mrs.
Starnes, with everyone chatter
ing happily away.
Those present were Mesdames
Mary Starnes, Elovoyce Greer,
Betty Johnson, Mabel O. Kelly,
Janet Nunn, Nell Hayes, Reba
Congdon, Virginia Hanson, Ruby

The next meeting, March 5,

HEARS FORESTER .
Sixteen members -were present
when the president, Herbert
Powell, c a lied the February
meeting of the Jonesboro High
School Senior 4-H Club to order.
A most inspiring devotional was
given by Ronald Rickett followed
by the roll call and reading of
the minutes by the secretary,
Brenda Brown.
It was the privilege ot the
club to hear a very interesting
talk and film on the Clayton
County Forestry Service by our
forest ranger, Alvin Wallace.
From this talk and film we were
able to learn how the Forestry
Service in Clayton County works
to help save our homes and
woodlands.
Mr. Tucker showed some edu
cational slides on ornamental
shrubs and how they can beauti
fy our homes. After the slides a
discussion was carried on con
cerning raising some of these
shrubs for a personal money
making project.
The girls were interested in

Treat your dollars with respect. True, they won’t buy as much
as they used to. But this is the very reason why you should
spend a few of them — and save as many — as you possibly
can. The dollars you needlessly spend only help to keep prices
