Notice is hereby given that on the 19th day of March
1960 an election will be held at the regulap polling places in
all of the voting precincts of Clayton County, Georgia, for
the purpose of electing the Treasurer for Clayton County,
Georgia to fill the unexpired term of Joe T. Lane.
: All candidates desiring to offer for the office of Treas
urer of Clayton County, Georgia, must qualify in the Ordi
nary’s Office at the Clayton County Courthouse on or before
5 o’clock p.m. Friday, March 11, 1960.
This being necessary in order to provide ample time
to have the ballots printed and the candidates’ names placed
thereon.
The voting polls shall open in all precincts and voting
places of Clayton County at 7 o’clock a.m. and shall remain
open until 7 o’clock p.m. on the 19th day of March, 1960.
Those qualified to vote in said election shall be deter
mined in all precincts in accordance with the laws govern
ing the election of county officials of Clayton County.

Area Mourns

Passing of
R. L. Wynn
Mr. R. L. (Bob) Wynn, retired
Jonesboro policeman, passed
away February 17th at his resi
dence, after an illness of two
years.
Mr. Wynn was the son of the
late James Vernon Wynn and
Caroline Satterfield, of Hampton,
Ga. He had spent all of his life
in Clayton County and was edu
cated in the Jonesboro School.
He was employed for several
years by the late Mr. Claud
Hutcheson in Jonesboro, during
World War II served as Auxiliary
Policeman at the Army General
Depot, Conley. He retired as
Jonesboro city policeman Jan
uary 15th, 1959. He was a mem
ber of the Jonesboro First Bap
tist Church, a member of Jones
boro Masonic Lodge. He was ac
tive in community affairs in
Jonesboro and Clayton County.
“Mr. Bob,” as he was affec
tionately known, commanded,
and held the respect of all who
knew him. His concern in all
things that were good for his
fellow-man, his community, and
his deep love and understanding
of people has meant much in
molding the lives of many of our
Jonesboro youth.
Mr. Bob was highly respected
as an officer, a father and as a
man. He will be greatly missed
by both young and old.
Besides his wife, the former
Jessie Camp, of Jonesboro, he is
survived by four sons, R. L.
Wynn, Jr., Spartanburg, S. C.;
Dan C. Wynn, Waynesboro, Ga.;
Vern Wynn and Edd Wynn, of
Jonesboro; three daughters, Mrs.
A. J. Mundy, Jonesboro; Mrs.
Charles Moore, Chattanooga,
Tenn.; Mrs. Hubert Lee, Smyrna,
Ga.; one brother, Mr. Arthur
Wynn, Lovejoy; one sister, Mrs.
H. F. Beaty, Macon, Ga.

On Tuesday, February 23, the
Forest Park Jaycees honored the
city officials at a testimonial
“City Government Appreciation
Wight.” Those attending were

Wells, Vollie Burks, City Manag
er-Clerk, T. J. Elliott and Fire
Chief Joe Picard.
Norman Jenkins, Jaycee pro
gram chairman was master of
ceremonies and stated that the
club wanted to emphasize the
importance of our City Govern
ment, and recognize the har
mony and spirit of cooperation
which was now evident among
city officials.
Mayor Puckett made the prin
cipal speech which was both in
teresting and informative. He is
very satisfied with the accom
plishments of the city govern
ment since he has taken office.
He praised the fine work being
done by new City Manager-Clerk
Elliott, along with Police Chief
Widener and Fire Chief Picard.
He also spoke highly of the co
operation given him by all city
councilmen, and the dedication
to their job that each one of
them has. Mayor Puckett stated
that “The City of Forest Park
does not have any problems now,
except we need to find more
money to provide the additional
services that the people want.”

Lake City School
Plans Open House
On Sunday, Mareh 6, from 3
pm. to 5 p.m. Open House will
be held at the new Lake City
Elementary School, The PTA
will be the official hosts.
This newest addition to the
ever growing Clayton County
School System is a building we
all can take pride in having had
a part in making it a reality. The
building combines esthetic quali
ties with professional education
al functions to a degree that it
compares favorably with any
school plant in Metropolitan At
lanta.
Lake City Elementary School;
built to accommodate 700 child
ren was built at a cost of $8.17
per square foot. The facilities in
clude, for the first time in our
county, an elementary Science
Center. The equipment through
out this building is modern, ser-,
viceable and beautiful. The Li
brary is spacious, attractive and
is provided with a work area. The
Cafeteria-Auditorium is large
enough to accommodate most
any group or organization. The
kitchen is the most modern in
our County. In simple words this
building is another step forward
along the long, difficult road to
wards providing an Adequate
Program of Education for all
Clayton County Children.
As a professional person in Ed
ucation, I want to again express
my sincere appreciation to all of
the voters and taxpayers who are
supporting all of the educational
programs in our County. Please
come and visit this new plant
and we feel sure you will be
happy to work all the harder to
help make the Clayton County
School System the BEST for all
children in our County.

World Mission
Fair is Held
On Wednesday, Feb. 24, the
Philadephia Presbyterian
Church held a World Mission
Fair, with displays and souvenirs
from the countries wherever mis
sionary work is in evidence. Each
Sunday school class took a coun
try to represent and the result
was most pleasing and instruc
tive. Customs, strange to us,
came to light, making the whole
affair thrilling and highly in
formative.
Ladies Auxiliary
Visits Hospital
The Ladies’ Auxiliary of Am
vet Post 17, Forest Park, visited
the VA Hospital of Atlanta, Ga.,
last Wednesday night. The visit
was a social one, during which
they served cookies, cup cakes

its regular monthly meeting with
a Founder’s Day program Feb.

Mrs. Emily White, program
chairman, had, as usual, pre
pared an excellent program on
the Founder’s Day theme. Past
presidents honored were Mes
dames Margaret Williams, Liz
ette Hart, D. A. Mullins, and
Evelyn Simpson.
A short history of PTA was
given by W. H. Favor, principal.
Speciai music was provided by
Mrs. Lois Bailey and Mrs. E.
Lantyz, with Mrs. Jose at the
piano. A nominating committee
was elected to submit names for
next year’s officers. A film of
last year’s Talent Show was
shown. The banner for best at-~
tendance was won by Mrs. Edna
Duncan’s first grade room.
