Successful Season
For Jonesboro Girls
This year the Jonesboro girls’ basketball team really
got into the swing of things. Their record, 11 wins and 7
losses, was the best Jonesboro’s team has had in several
years. They proved to themselves and everyone else they
had “what it takes” to play basketball.
The team got off to a good
start by defeating the Carrollton
girls team. Betty Kinney led the
sextet by scoring 15 points. The i
final score at the end of the
game was, Jonesboro with 26
points and Carrollton with only
25.
The following week the Cardi
nal girls defeated the unde
feated Pike County team. It was
a hard, tough game; but again
the Cardinals came out on top,

—I was appointed by Governor Vandiver to the Opera

of the State Democratic Executive Committee.
—Successfully passed a Bill, along with my colleague
creating the Clayton Judicial Circuit of the Superior Court.
—I have worked jointly with my colleague to get better
consideration by the City of Atlanta on the Airport lands
located in Clayton County, saving our taxpayers thousands
of dollars.
—I made the Minority Report for Governor Vandiver to
help keep the people of Georgia from going in debt eighty
million dollars ($80,000,000) to expand the Rural Roads sys
tem after finding out that roads built under the Rural Roads
Authority were costing three or four times as much as sim
ilar roads built under the regular system used by the High

—I graduated from the University of Georgia and while
Secretary to the late Congressman Emmett Owen, graduated
from the National University Law School at night. I have a
wife and two sons, both U. of Ga. graduates, one studying
Veterinary Medicine and one in business in Clayton County
with me. My home is Rt. 1, Jonesboro and my mother still
lives in the old home place in Jonesboro.

Boys’ Basketball Team
Honored With Banquet
The Maple Street School PTA
Executive Board is to sponsor a
banquet honoring the basketball
boy’s team on March 18 at the
school, at 6:30 p.m. The boys
“earned” this honor by winning
the much coveted trophy, which
will be displayed in the Recrea-.
tion Hall at College Park.
Special guests will be the
coach, Donald R. Bailey, and the
assistant coach, Charley Harris.
The guest speaker will be Jim
Walker, manager of College Park
Recreation Club. It is hoped that
the school principal, W. H. Fa
vor, will also be present to say
a few words.

you believe we have a lot of money and with
their experience and past records we will be roll
ing in clover for the next four years. If some
one doesn't do a better job in the next four years
than has been done in the past four, we had
better be trying to get some clover from some
of the other counties who don't have the possi
bilities that we have; yet they have less problems
and lots more clover.
We hove the clover fields but don't have
the right tools and manpower.
If you owned or was head of a large corpora
tion and was planning some changes badly need
ed, would you employ men that had already been
connected with this firm for several years, who
was obligated to all the other employees and they
would not make the necessary changes without
the loss of their cooperation and support in
making these changes. Or would you do what
other big businesses do—get men with new ideas
and more progressive experience who was not ob
ligated to anyone, especially his business associ
ates and friends. We have the same problem a
few of the other counties have, politicians with
long records and they never change the record,
as some of their friends and associates like the
old music. Are we going to turn the record over
and get a new needle that will play the kind of
music all the people can dance to or let the old
record with the same old needle make music for
Clayton County the next four yca.r.
Some of the changes I will have ;? ri-' —
• Do away with Fulton County small business
type taxes as well as certain other taxes that are being
imposed on all the people.
• Do away with our present prison camp, take
what money that could be salvaged from the unneces
sary evil and build a football stadium, something that
all the people could enjoy as well as being a step for
ward for our younger people.
• Get bids on all road work in Clayton County
and if we could not take the money now being spent
on this camp to take care of same, I am sure that we
could set up a road program with this money where
we could have some roads all over the county instead
of only certain sections, especially around Morrow
where some of our county officials own property?
Take a look for yourself. If you would like
some new music and a new needle, vote and
support M. M. Buice, candidate for County Com
missioner, Second District.
Sincerely,
IW. M. BUICE

Mary Ellen Stoudt set the pace

Being able to return the next
night, the Cardinals were de

team played Osborne in a con

girls played to the best of their
ability they were defeated by 2
