Tech still didn’t win the South
eastern Conference basketball
championship. Denton was said
to be a fine outstanding young
man from Kentucky, or some
where, and we are sure he is—
an outstanding young man, that
is—but Georgia’s Wallace Butts
'in the early part of the football
'season fired one of the Bulldogs’
'best backs who caught on with
the Canadian pro league later,
and Butts did this not knowing
whether it would cost Geor
gia the Southeastern Confer
‘ence football championship, or
not. It didn’t—as a matter of
fact. Georgia won without their
star who had done nothing ‘more
than severe break training, etc.

Wally Butts sent Frankie
Sinkwich away, in the begin
ning of Frankie's career at
Georgia, and Frankie had to
come crawling back and beg
for reinstatement. Butts has
fired many good players, for
reasons of squad morale.
Anyway, there are beatnik
coffee houses patronized by
Tech students, a few odd and
assorted cocktail lounges,
night clubs, fraternity affairs
that might curl your hair,
et. al.
We have no beef against Geor
gia Tech, having followed them
as a sports editor as closely as
'we did Georgia, in the good old
'days, but we think that a halo
would be hard to fit over the
MIT of the South out on North
Avenue.
It always seemed a little
strange to us that the great
Coca-Cola Company sat so
close, and yet there were other
drinks more heavily patronized
than was Coca-Cola. And to
carry the point farther, the
Coca-Cola Bottling Company
is only a stone’s throw away
from the Tech campus.
There are a lot of other
places — and things — not too
‘much farther than a stone’s
‘throw away from Tech as well.
| We didn’t start this witch
hunt, but we'd like, as a long
time sports editor of The At
lanta Constitution, and Pub
lisher Ralph McGill’s aide for
many years, to see a little fair
play exercised in this ill-ad
vised expose of a Georgia uni
versity that- was founded by
Yale men and is the oldest
chartered state University in
the state.

ackle Tech
Nobody bothered her. She wasn’t
unpopular, either. I have many,
many fine U. of Georgia friends
right here in Clayton County
‘who simmer under the accusa
‘tions, some, perhaps, true, and
lyet Georgia today is a bed of
roses in comparison with some of
‘the days of long, long ago. Tech,
itoo. is a bed of roses compared
‘with some of the days out there
‘in the long, long ago.
This sudden burst of edi
torial morality must be bring
i ing blushes to the cheeks of
| maybe one publisher and some
| editors I know. And whom, in
| cidentally, T know.
I only hope they will assign
er. Nelson to Georgia Tech. I'll
jtake time off and gladly help
|him in his investigation. I think
perhaps I know Tech better than
he does. And Georgia too.
Ash Street PTA
Honors Teachers
The Ash Street School teach
ers were honored April 22 at
3:30 p.m. in the school library by
the PTA with a tea. The teachers
and principal were presented
gifts by the room mothers earlier
in the day—in appreciation for
their never tiring efforts they
give. Each teacher gives in her
own way so much that we great
ly appreciate.
The table decorations were in
(pink and white. Pink and white
Ichrysanthemums were used as
an attractive center. Party sand
'wiches and tea cookies, in the
pink and white also, were very
attractive as well as tasty.
Mrs. Hoyt Butler, president of
the PTA, presented a most ap
‘propriate program. Mr. W. M.
I¢Youngblood, principal, expressed
‘his appreciation to the PTA for
‘the lovely tea and all the other
‘things they have done in the
rpast. He expressed his desire to
‘have the teachers and parents
work more closely together in
the future—in order to do more
for all the children.
