James Sherriff came up with the highest series of the
season and set a Forest Park record with a gigantic 741 to
take the Star of the Week Award. His 633 scratch was his
career high. The lady winner of Derickson’s Studio weekly
award was Claudell Mitchell who rolled a 506 and finished
with a total series of 650. While en route to her blistering
series she came up with a 226 game, the highest game of the
season for a lady in league play.
HITS AND MISSES FROM
AROUND FOREST PARK LANES:
There were four other bowlers who cracked 600 scratch
or better last week.
Al Knight—6l6—Monday Night Men’s League
W. Smith—6lo—Federal Prison League
Ken Summers—6o3—Tuesday Night Men’s League
Maddox—6ol—Thursday Major League
The Ryders Truck Rental Team in the Ball and Chain
Mixed League had only four open frames in their third game.
This is a pretty remarkable feat considering there are four
members on the team. Marge Parker with the W. T. Grant
team had a 206 game. Inez Raines of Ryders had a total
series of 587. Maxine Weatherly had a 612 with a 211 game
in the Wednesday Morning Ladies League. Doris Lewis’s 639
took top honors among the Thursday Morning Ladies.
The Friday Night Mixed Couples league found Tom Don
nelly blasting a 592 scratch while Edith Pope had a 529 and
a total 610 to lead the ladies.
In the Tuesday Night Handicap League Omar Purvis
rolled for a total 650 and also had the high scratch game of
219. E. R. Richardson had the high game with handicap of
254. Bill Aikers paced the Chevy-Overnite League with a 629
total series.

From start to finish, the Miss
Clayton County Pageant is a
fine contest, providing many un
■ usual experiences for young
women. Most little girls dream
about becoming Miss America
but they never expect their
i dreams to come true. For the
past several years in Clayton
County a girl has had the op
portunity to enter such a con
; test in qrder to better herself
I and her future. Besides acquir
i ing poise and experience, she
j can win tangible prizes, too.
; Again, this year, the Jonesboro
Jaycees plan for another young
lady’s dream to become a reality.
