SPECIAL PRESENTMENT
(Continued From Page 1)
to take industry representatives
to the Clayton County Court
house. We owe it to our children,
if not to our pride of citizenship,
that we make our county attrac
tive to industry—not detractive.
Needless to say, our ability to
provide needed schoolrooms
varies directly with our ability
to increase the tax digest. No
one on this Grand Jury, or any
other person to whom we have
talked, has said that a new or
additional building is not an
absolute necessity. The problem
is determining the type of
building needed and working out
the financing.
As to financing, we recom
mend without reservation that
it be handled by general obliga
tion bonds. We have been in
formed that the bond issue as
recommended by the County
Commissioners will not require
an additional millege levy, in
other words the building may be
built without increasing taxes.
We are proud of the residen
tial and industrial growth Clay
ton County has made in the last
few years. However, we are
gravely concerned with what
will happen to our county if the
bond referendum fails to pass.
We must realize and understand
our responsibility, face up to it
squarely, and resolve to do that
which we know must be done.
Therefore, we wholeheartedly
recommend to the voters of
Clayton County, that they vote
for the bond issue being sub
mitted to them on July 19th.
Respectfully submitted this
23i'd day of June, 1961

ASC NEWS
Twenty five Claytbn County
farmers have signed a form CSS
477, “Intention to Participate in
the 1961 Feed Grain Program.”
Those intending to reduce their
1961 acreage of corn by 4 or
more acres from their 1959-1960
average include: W. S. Turner,
Raymond White, Alf Wootton,
W. W. Camp, L. V. Shelnutt, M.
E. Waggoner, Robert E. Brooke,
James M. Byrom, Mrs. Lois
Wallis, Fred B. Scott, E. P.
Hanes, Frank H. White, H. W.
Buckley, Mrs. Hayden C. Dorsey,
C. R. Lee, W. Z. Mitchell, George
T. Smith and W. E. Huie.
Clayton County farmers who
have been participating ade
quately in the Agricultural Con
servation Program and who
stock their pastures properly
have been blessed with ample to
luxurious grazing this spring.
Any Clayton County farmer is
eligible to receive cost sharing
assistance on needed conserva
tion practices by filing a request
and receiving county committee
approval.
W. W. Camp and W. W. Dixon
are now checking farms with
1961 cotton allotments and/or
Feed Grain diverted acreage.
Farm operators are responsible
for pointing out all the fields
planted to the crop being meas
ured and for assisting in meas
uring the fields. A farm operator
who works away from home
should designate someone to act
as his representative in pointing
out all the fields and to assist in
measurement of the fields.
The recently enacted 1961 feed
grain program applies only to
producers of corn and grain
sorghum, not to producers who
grow other feed grains only. In
terested producers should file an
“Intention to Participate” form
in the ASC office now.
Any Clayton County farmer
who does not have an old grower
wheat allotment for planting
this fall may now file a new
grower application. Present law
allows planting of up to 15 acres
for use or sale on any farm even
without an allotment or up to
30 acres for use as feed wheat.
Since this law may be changed
an interested farmer who does
not have an allotment should
apply for one now.
Soybean producers must
maintain their 1959-60 average
acreage of conserving and idle
land on the farm in 1961 to be
eligible for 1961 price support on
soybeans. This requirement is to
avoid increasing soybean acre
age at the expense of acreage
