“THE HAPPY HOME”
“... let every one . ..so love his wife ...;
and the wife.. .reverence her husband." Ephesians 5:33
That eminent Greek and New Testament scholar, Dr. A.
T. Robertson, once said that Ephesians 5:25-33 is "the no
blest picture of marriage ever drawn.” This Scripture reveals
I the secret of a happy home. Marriage is a mutual partner
ship of love and reverence. The husband is to cherish, to
nourish and to care for his wife as he does for himself. He
is to love her as Christ loved the church and died for it.
Such a love is self-forgetful and sacrificial.
“I am afraid that our minister loved his wife too well,
and the Lord in his wisdom removed her,” someone said to
the great preacher, Rowland Hill, who replied, “Can a man
love a good wife too much? Impossible, Sir, unless he can love
her more than Christ loves the church!”
The wife is to respect her husband. It is a great pity
when a wife does not have anything to respect in her hus
band. A home that maintains an atmosphere of love, rev
erence, peace, confidence and purpose, where husband and
wife are partners with Christ, with each other and with their
children, is a home that blesses the world.
“Religion lived daily in the home” is the greatest ele
ment in making for happiness in the home according to Dr.
A. W. Beaven who made a survey or seven hundred and fifty
couples at whose wedding he had officiated.
Dale Carnegie in his “How to Win Friends and Influence
People" gives seven rules for a happy hom'>. They are: Don’t
nag. Don’t try to make your partner over. Don’t criticize. Ex
press appreciation. Pay little attentions. Be courteous, and
read a good book on marriage.
Charles H. Spurgeon once said: “When home is ruled ac
cording to God's word, angels might be asked to stay a night
with us, and they would not find themselves out of their
element.”
"Happy is the family
That has a true home,
Built by loyal hearts:
I For home is not a dwelling,
But a fellowship of love.”
