You Can’t Keep A Good Man
Down; Hence The Great New
Dwarf House
It seems a long time ago,
now. It was the usual night in
Forest Park; self-respecting
folks had gone to bed. And then
it happened. The Dwarf House
was afirel
Fire departments of Forest
Park and Atlanta General De
pot rushed to the scene. Fire
men battled valiantly, heroical
ly, for they all liked Truett
Cathy, the owner, and they want
ed, above all, to save as much of
the fast-burning restaurant as
they possibly could.
But the odds were against
them this night. Flames gutted
the Dwarf Room, the fabulous
draws mural of the seven
dwarfs; and spread into the kit
chen, and just about every
where, leaving the famous
Dwarf House a shambles, and
in the early morning light, the
beautiful restaurant smoulder
ed In ruins. It was heart-break
ing to many of Truett Cathy’s
friends; and It wrenched at his
heart, too. A little later on Mr.
Cathy entered the hospital, and
even later he made a return
visit for treatment. But nothing
had really touched his stour
heart.

Soon the tent appeared in the
back of the building, and people
from everywhere came and en
joyed the plcnic-llke surround
ings. It became the most popu
lar luncheon and coffee-break
area In town.
And while this was going
on, Truett Cathy began the work
of rebuilding the Dwarf House —
not, of course, as he wanted It
— but a place anyway where
people could gather and enjoy
good food and fellowship.
All the while, too, the ima
ginative mind of Mr. Cathy was
at work. He dreamed of a re
volutionary type Dwarf House
and Drive-In Restaurant, some
thing new with patio and inside
dining, and air cooled comfort.
And so it has happened. It
is a beautiful restaurant, new in
all respects. There is nothing
like it In Greater Atlanta. It
has the prospects of beriming
a link in a great chain of Dwarf
House restaurants.
And here friends and foes
alike gather and enjoy the fa
mous chicken sandwiches —
finest thing that ever happened
to a chicken — and the Dwarf
Burgers, finest top ground
meat, and the other fine food.
All of this has come to pass
in a remarkably short time, and
it is a monument to the courage
and enterprise of one of Clay
ton County’s finest citizens,
business men and civic work
ers — Truett Cathy. Yes, he
could have sold this valuable
land and retired to his fine
farm in Lovejoy and "enjoyed"
life. Or could he? That’s the
question. Men of great initiative
and enterprise — all-amerl
can citizens In the mould and
tradition of Truett Cathy —
don’t give up. They accept ad
versity as a challenge, work
ship God and believe, with all
their hearts, that things will
come out for the best. And so,
indeed, has this come to pass
for a fine gentleman, his fine
wife and family.
