“THE CHURCH UN YOUR HOME”
. the church in thy house." Philemon 2
Former President of the United States, Calvin Coolidge,
is quoted as having once said, "The greatest need of America
is religion, the religion that centers in the home.” No nation
ever rises higher than its home life. As the home goes, so
goes America and our world.
Is it not then of utmost importance that we get back
to the good old time, old fashioned family altar? There is no
more beautiful sight under heaven than to see a father and
mother gather their children around them, read God’s Word,
and pray together.
A home without an altar is like a community without a
church. The family altar alters the family, prevents the web
of life from unraveling, brings the family into unity at the
highest possible level, provides religious instruction, affects
the language of children, teaches them how to pray, lifts the
whole family to God, and binds hearts, minds and souls by
the golden chain of worship.
All who come from such a home know something of these
untold blessings. They know from experience that families
who pray together stay together. Worship in the home helps
to simplify the emotional adjustments of marriage, spirit
ualizes the home, enthrones Christ as Lord of Lords and
King of Kings, develops reverence, increases faith, enriches
relationships, hallows guests, solves problems, gives strength
for life’s burdens and courage to face bravely the realities of
life.
There isn’t anything that sweetens and sanctifies home
life more than family worship. Family worship creates an
atmosphere which makes friction, tension, bickering and
quarreling very difficult. Peace and calmness characterize
such homes. The home altar develops Christian character,
inspires life visions, makes us finer and more faithful church
members, and builds better homes and nations.
If you do not have a family altar in your home, why not
begin one today?
