Morrow HD Club
The Morrow H.D. Club held ।
its regular meeting Tuesday, ।
Nov. 20, at Lake City Clubhouse
at 10 o’clock with 15 members
and four visitors present.
Our president, Mrs. Ruby

the Pledge to the Flag.
Mrs. S. C. Lenic was in charge
of the devotional, and began by
reading the 100th Psalm. Also
a short reading, Success is
Never a Homemade Thing, by
Dr. Walter Courtney, closed:
with a short poem by Rudgard i
Kipling.
Minutes were read by the
secretary, Mrs. Shi. Miss Delia
Harper, the treasurer, gave the
treasurer’s report.
On Friday, Nov. 30, is Achieve
ment Day. It will be held at
Riverdale at 10 o’clock a.m.
Each club will have its own
table to display articles that
have been made this year. After
the business meeting is over, a
covered dish lunch will follow.
Nominating committee t nomi
nated officers for the coming
year: President, Mrs. Knight;
first vice president, Mrs. Vera
Black; second vice president,
Mrs. Ruby Hood; secretary, Mrs.
Ilene Shi; treasurer, Miss Delia
Harper, and reporter, Mrs. Ro

There will be a change in our

at that time. Instead of our
meeting on the third Tuesday,
we will meet on the third Thurs
day, Dec. 20, at the Lake City
Clubhouse. Rev. Jim Varner,
pastor of the Morrow Methodist

devotional.
A motion was made and
carried that the club send SIO.OO

Mrs. Joye Spates, our H.D.

on how to make Christmas Dec
orative Candles, also a booklet
on Family Food Stockpile for
Survival, in Case of Emergency.
She also brought some inter
esting decorations to show the
club, some her own idea and
some she had gotten from other
clubs.
We were very happy to wel
come three new members into
our club: Mrs. Hugh Stanley,
Mrs. Helen Raulins and Mrs.
S. C. Lenic.
At 12 o’clock we adjourned for
a covered dish luncheon, beau

In another mood, he can play
the most tender ballad, written

mood, he can perform a dynamic
Composition, requiring the great
est emotion and deepest feeling.
Varied music, from the artist’s

Gertrude Barrett
Bausch & Lomb
1963 Award Winner
Throughout the United States,
educators recognize the annual
Bausch & Lomb Honorary Sci
ence Award as evidence of su
perior scientific aptitude.
In announcing Miss Gertrude
Barrett as the 1963 winner,
Mr. Butler, Counselor of North
Clayton High School said .“These
Awards are especially signifi
cant. Today, everyone realizes
the importance of the study of
science in our secondary schools.
The Bausch & Lomb Honorary
Science Award provides appro
priate recognition to senior stu
dents within the highest scho
lastic standing in science sub
jects.”
The Science Award—a hand
some bronze medal —is pre
sented at graduation in more
than 8,000 schools. Since its in
troduction in 1933, there have
been 162,000 winners. Surveys
have revealed that more than
30% of the winners have been
encouraged by the Award to fol
low scientific careers.
Winners of the Honorary Sci
ence Award are eligible to com
pete for Science Scholarships,
sponsored by Bausch & Lomb
Incorporated, at the University
of Rochester. Three or more
Scholarships are provided an
nually. Stipends are based on
need and have a total combined
value of $21,600. The Award
winner is usually selected in
December, so that her applica
tion for the Scholarship Compe
tition can be filled out and re
turned to the University before
the February 1 deadline.
The Bausch & Lomb Science
Award and Scholarship Pro
grams have been officially ap
proved by the National Associa
tion of Secondary-School Prin
cipals.
Schools with a total enroll
ment of more than six million
are now operating a School
Savings program for the pur
chase of U. S. Savings Stamps
and Bonds. If yours is not one
of these, you may be missing an
opportunity to contribute to
thrift education and set an ex
ample in patriotic service to the
Nation.
