Guice Is Speaker
At Rotary Meeting
Bill Guice of the Forest Park
Fire Department addressed the
Forest Park Rotary Club on
Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Bar
beque Kitchen.
Mr. Guice in a well-organized,
Informative talk told the Ro
tarians of the history of the
Forest Park Fire Department,
taking it from the days of the
volunteers to the present day
force of full time employees,
backed by a commendable com
plement of equipment.
Mr. Guice discussed the
lowering of the Underwriters
rating from that of 10 in the
days of the volunteer force to
the present rating of 7. He was
explicit in stating what changes
and Improvements have occa
sioned the lowering of these
ratings and translated the re
sultant savings to the taxpayer
into dollar and cents termi
nology. It was shown that in
lowering the Underwriters rating
from 10 to 8 the insurance
premiums were approximately
cut in half, and when the rating
was lowered to 7 the Forest Park
taxpayer who owned a $12,000
brick veneer home saved ap
premiums further but at a

। Mr. Guice spoke of con

spoke of the Headquarter sta

that is designed to take care of
Forest Park’s needs for years to
come. It is hoped that with the
installation of new alarm boxes
and the completion of the Head

NORTH CLAYTON’S 145-pound All-State AA halfback, Frank
Oliver, is shown here performing on defense against Wayne
County. Oliver and a teammate have the Jackets’ great quarter
back Richardson solidly trapped on an attempted gain. Over
is a fine runner, punt and kickoff returner, and a solid man
on defense. The Associated Press named only Oliver, didn’t
award another Eagle star even honorable mention—which, in
our book, was a gross mistake in selection. There were others
who deserved the recognition, too. How they overlooked Phil
Smith is surely one of those things. And there were others on
the fine team that had won 12 straight as the all-star selec
tions were made. Oliver was a star in defeat at Rossville in the
state title game.
