have to work to win the job. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see him
do it. I think it’s obvious that the Giants signed him with the idea
that he will sometime take over for Tittle. But don’t forget, the
Giants still have Ralph Guglielmi, and Griffing will have to show
he can beat him out.”
Thus, the big Tech propaganda effort of 1962 went up in
smoke on New Year’s Day, 1963. Lothridge simply became one of
the boys. Georgia didn’t have much to offer in the annual rivalry.
In the Bluebonnet Bowl Georgia Tech played like bluebonnets
or maybe Daisy Maes. Only Auer played up to standard. And then
there was the Alabama-Tech game. How could Bear Bryant ever
explain sitting Namath on the bench, and not trying for an extra
point to tie the game with five minutes to play, or then, later,
throwing a pass on first down on the 15, instead of getting in field
goal position to win the game, since he had one of the best field
! goal specialists sitting on the bench. What gives? Maybe Commis
sioner Bernie Moore, an old coach himself, might examine some
of the circumstances in the background of such a complete re
versal of form on the part of undefeated Alabama.
Jimmy Jones, Depot PIO. who saw the Alabama-Oklahoma
Orange Bowl game, reported that ’Barna had the same field goal
situation as in the Tech game, and kicked the field goal, of course

PRESERVING
SWEET POTATOES
Sweet potatoes, now available
in quantity, are well suited for
canning and freezing for out
of-season use. They may also be
pureed, says Miss Nelle Thrash,
Extension food preservation spe

by using only sound, quality
potatoes that have been cured
for two to four weeks. County
home demonstration agents can
give details on different ways to
preserve sweet potatoes.
