A recently released convict
Wednesday admitted a series of
17 armed robberies in Atlanta,
police said.
He was identified as Arthur
Kilgore, 19. Negro, of a Howell
Street NE address.
Detective Sgt. R. E. Nickerson
and Detective Y. H. Allen said

ceived one-year terms in each
ease.
The latest conviction was on
Oct. 24, 1961, officers said, and
Kilgore began the holdup wave
in December, 1962, soon after
completing the prison sentence.
Officers said Kilgore had ad
mitted 15 whisky store rob
beries. a grocery store holdup
and a record shop robbery that
extended over a wide area of
Atlanta. They said he would be
questioned in other recent hold
ups.

Gunman Grabs
$217 at Store
A Negro gunman robbed an [
Atlanta liquor store of $217 late [
Monday night, police said.
Detectives C. B. Wooster and I
R. J. Shephard said Herman
Schlossman, a clerk in the store
located at 228 Edgewood Ave.,
। told them the Negro entered the
[store shortly before 11 p.m. and
asked to make a purchase.
When asked for proof of his
age, Schlossman said, the Negro
pulled out a pistol and forced 1
him to put the money from the
cash register into a paper sack.
। The gunman escaped after leav
ing Schlossman in a back room
of the store, officers said.
"They'll Hang You

“If you kill me, you’ll be guilty
of murder and they’ll hang
you.”
Those frightened words, spoken
by a 63-year-old Atlanta wom
an, sent a youthful Negro as
- sailant fleeing from his victim’s
home Thursday, according to
I police.
The attacker carried with him
> sls which he had taken from
the woman at knifepoint, after
slashing her clothing and at
tempting to smother her with a
pillow, police said.
The attack was one of two
that occurred against women in
: their southwest Atlanta homes,
| prompting poliec to concentrate
a search for a young Negro who
Monday robbed two elderly
women on Pryor Street, SW, and
rode off on a bicycle.
The second of Thursday’s vic
tims, Mrs. W. E. Fleming of 611
Mary St., SW. escaped injury,
i But the 63-year-old woman was
| severely beaten. She was treated
at Grady Hospital for head in
juries and bruises about the
i body.
t Detectives C. B. Wooster and
R. J. Shepard said her clothing
had been slashed with a knife.

Judge Kemp
Optimistic
About Youth
Judge Ed Kemp, of the Clayton
Juvenile Court, was guest speak
er at the regular weekly meeting
I of the Forest Park Optimist Club
last Tuesday morning.
Judge Kemp’s talk was quite
interesting and informative, and
was delivered with an optimistic
I overtone that seemed to predict'
| better days ahead for the young
er agß groups of our county. His
facts on population migration
and the various reasons causing
this migration brought out some
of the causes of juvenile delin
quency. For example, in 1950,
Clayton County’s total popula
tion was about 10,000.
At the present the number of
people in Clayton County 17
years or under is about double
that number with a total county
population of 50 to 60 thousand
It was brought out that several
areas where trouble had de
veloped in the past are now
considerably improved.
Continued cooperation and
alertness will be needed, how
ever, for the protection of juve
niles. Finally, Judge Kemp em
phasized three reliable ways to
insure our sons and daughters
welfare: Good recreational facil
ities with Christian leadership,
spend an adequate amount of
time with the children—going
places and doing things with
them—and—watch the grades
on their report cards. Dropping
grades indicate a lag in interest
in the better things. A lack of
interest in Sunday School and
church attendance should serve
as a warning signal the same as
lower grades that corrective at-.
tention is needed.
In summing up Judge Kemp’s
visit to the meeting, the only re
gret is that more Clayton County
parents were not on hand to hear
the remarks of this dedicated
jurist.

POINT OF VIEW
(Continued From Page 1)
wick’s favored seafood restaurants. Hushpuppies and shrimg and
crabmeat dishes that water your mouth. Steaks, .fresh fish, et al.
The atmosphere of the Crews restaurants is enticing indeed.
You just naturally relax and enjoy fine food. My old friend, Albert
Crews, has achieved success in the true tradition of the American
Free Enterprise system. And he still finds time to hunt and fish.
I am holding an invitation to return to Brunswick and join him
for some fishing later on. He is a fine partner in outdoor activities,
hunting or fishing.
But mainly he is a great restaurateur —a past president of
the Georgia Restaurant Association, and currently a Director.
In 1958 Albert Crews was voted the Outstanding Restaurant
Man of The Year in Georgia. He was President in 1959 and 1961.
It will be a great pleasure to join him in some fine coastal
fishing one of these days.
Incidentally, when this popular Brunswick man jumped up
against Dr. Mercer in the council race — it probably wasn’t what
the doctor ordered.
Like Stuckey’s, the Crews chain of restaurants is a great credit
to Georgia.
Troops 451, 136, 143, 159, 404 is
scheduled. Any other troops of ;
Tara District having awards i
may present them at this time.
The parade of flags will be
presented. A trio of adult

be in attendance, also the Four ।
