Jane Howard Weds James Young
A wedding of wide interest was
that of Nancy Jane Howard,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rob
ert Reid Howard of Riverdale, to
James Franklin Young, son of
Mrs. James Young of Fitzgerald,
Ga. and Tampa, Fla. and the late
James Young, at Riverdale Pres
byterian Church July 27, at 8
o’clock.
The Rev. William W. Satter
white officiated and was assisted
by Rev. Robert F. Fioyd, of
Macon, Ga. uncle of the groom.
The bride given in marriage
by her father, wore a gown of
white organza and chantilly lace
over taffeta. The neckline was
outlined in seed pearls, as well
as the bodice and extending into

Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Coleman
and Ned attended the Johnson
Family annual get-together in
South Georgia recently. The Mc-
Kinney Pond Recreation Center
near Swainsboro was the spot
chosen for a picnic lunch, and
everybody had a good time,
catching up on family events
over the years.
Miss Linda Coleman could not
accompany her family for the
reunion. She was at Music Camp
in Rome, Ga. Ned got to stay at
his Uncle John’s home at Mid
ville for a week, and had a ball.
Mrs. A. F. Anderson and son
Tony have returned from a vaca
tion which took them to Char
lottesville and Scottsville, Vir
ginia. They visited Mr. and Mrs.
L. B. Barber, former residents
here and their two daughters,
Donna and Carol. On a fishing
expedition, the girls and Tony
were lucky to catch some really
big fish. What about that, Tony.
Mrs. W. W. Jones of Old 41,
and Mr. and Mrs. Hammett of
Morrow, spent last week-end in
Clayton, Ga. The ladies are twins.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith are
home after a wonderful trip to
Canada, leaving Aug. and re
turning Aug. 16. Smith’s Hard
ware Store, of which J. W. is a
director, was awarded the trip
by G. E. Electrical Appliances,
and started with a Eastern jet
flight to Montreal. Then by ship
for one of the World’s most
scenic cruises down the broad St.
Laurence River to Murray Bay.

Up the Saguenay River with
its spectacular views, three days
and nights at the Manoir Riche

N. America, back to Montreal by
ship, and then the jet flight
back to Atlanta and home.
Mr. and Mrs. George Diggs and

reation Park. Jan must surely
be one of the youngest campers,
but she had a ball.
Mrs. A, Y. (Hazel) Foster with
daughters Ann, who did the driv
ing, Fay, and Mrs. Foster’s moth
er, Mrs. Lillian West, are home
after a few days at Jekyll Island.
Mrs. Foster, an M.S. victim, was
taken in her wheel chair for long
rides along the beach, and so^nt
some happy hours sitting at the
edge of the ocean, watching the
tide roll in. The vacation was a
huge success.
Birthday Party
For Carol Sammons
“A twelve year old is too oIH
to have a birthday cake? That
is what Carol Sammons, who was
twelve on Sunday, August 18, was
told when her father, Mr. W. E.
Sammons and sisters Gail 17,
and Mary, 20, began plans for
her twelfth birthday party.
On Saturday night, August 17,
fifteen young friends and six
adults enjoyed sandwiches and
potato chips in honor of Carol’s
birthday. While everyone was
eating, a convertible drove up
into the back yard with a cake,
candles lit, riding in the back
seat. Yellow roses, Carol’s favo
rite flower, adorned the cake.

Terry Ellington was the week
end guest of Bobby Carithers in
Fairburn and he also visited
Larry Crawford on Monday be
fore returning home. Terry will
enter Rhinehardt College in
Waleska, Ga. Sept. 19th.
Mrs. Clifford Lewis of Alachua,
Fla. visited her mother, Mrs. J.
C. Jones, Mr. Jones and her
daughter, Cecelia, last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Edd Dean of
Winter Haven, Florida, spent the
week-end here with her parents

P. Alexander, Jr., wife of the
new commanding officer of At
lanta Army Depot, was welcomed
at a recent tea given in her hon
or by members of the Officers
Wives Club.
The club ballroom of the Of
ficers Open Mess was artistically
decorated in white and green.
Centering the punch table was
the silver punch bowl which was
presented to the OWC in May by
the outgoing club officers. In the
receiving line with Mrs. Alexand
er were Mrs. Louis C. Crouch and
Mrs. John A. Adams, OWC pres
ident.
Mrs. Alexander, a native of
Chickasha, Okla., came with her
husband from Washington, D.
C„ where Col. Alexander was as
signed as deputy chief of the
Colonels Division, Office of Per
sonnel Operations, Department
of Army Headquarters. They are
