Trade at Home
By THOMAS E. STANFORD
Stanford’s Department and Shoe Store
Every man or woman spends their money where they want
to, this is their right and as it should be.
Everyone wants the most value for every dollar they spend,
that is reasonable and fair. It is their money.
The question comes to my mind—Do we really get this value
at all times? Take time: we all get into set habits and shopping
patterns, so we tend to drive miles and miles to a particular
store, garage, gas station, barber shop, etc.
There is rarely a day passes, I am told by a customer, or some
other local businessman about the happy reaction and surprise
a citizen of this area has found at Shopping at Home; better
prices, better service and especially TIME saved.
What the whole thing is about is this, have you given the
local businessman an opportunity to serve you? I believe you
will be happy you did.
Leadership in the community; this comes from elected offi
cials, interested citizens and local independent businessmen.
Hundreds of hours, normally leisure, sometimes business hours'
are spent yearly by your local independent businessmen on
various boards of local, state, federal agencies to improve this
area to be a better place to live. Are you supporting their efforts
with some of your business?
The Clayton County Chamber of Commerce with one paid
manager, directors, local businessmen (unpaid) are doing a fine
job to gain industry for this area. The problem: We have about
the poorest sales to citizens ratio in the state. Why is this? I
think it is primarily due to being a new area and we tend to
hold to our old shopping habits and do not give the local mer
chants an opportunity to serve you.
When a man decides to go into business, there are many fac
tors which he considers. It is a good trading area? In other
words, do the people shop at home or get lured away by some
advertising gimmick, etc., into another area. It is true that chain
stores can afford to wait, even years, but your strength in a com
munity — the local independent businessman — can not.
This area could easily support twice the businesses we have
today.
How interested are you in your home community?

It all went on for well over a

an Edenfield lawyer (Majors)

The day we got before Judge

“We find our heat pump provides

us and our daughter, Lisa.”
— , Mrs. Roland E. Hurt
r Mableton, Georgia
“Hot weather is hard on children, so we’ve
been especially grateful for our heat pump
this summer. I think it’s kept Lisa much
happier. Really, she doesn’t know any kind
of living but total-electric, for we were living
in a home with a heat pump when she was
born,” says Mrs. Hurt,
Mr. Hurt never needs to touch the thermo
stat in his home. He has set it to the ideal
climate for his family. Now the heat pump
cools all summer, then switches automatically
to heating for the winter.
The Hurts are another of the smart, young
Georgia families who have stepped up to the
joy of total-electric living. With our total
electric rate, the cost for electricity is the
lowest in our history.
