Mrs. D. L. Shirley Presented
For Mother of the Year
The Morrow Junior Woman’s Club is Sponsoring Mrs.
D. L. Shirley Sr. for Mother of the Year of Georgia. Mrs.
Shirley, the former Mrs. Tinnie Andrews of Carnsville,
has lived in Morrow for thirty-five years, rearing her child
ren in our community. The Shirley children are now Mrs.
Joe McGahee, Cornelia; Mrs.
Warren Dixon, Jonesboro; Mrs. '
Homer Cooper, Morrow; and D. j
L. Shirley, Jr., of Morrow. )
As a young mother, Mrs. Shir- 1
ley was active in the PTA and '
worked toward setting up the
school lunch room program in ;
Morrow Elementary School. To
day the school has grown from '
a two-room building to a fine
school which her grandchildren
attend. Because her job as a
mother was so important to her,
she never worked outside of the
home while her children were
growing up; nevertheless, she
taught Sunday School, worked in
Vacation Bible School and
helped in the community wher
ever she was needed. Thus, Mrs.
Shirley brought her children up
in an atmosphere of spiritual
dedication as well as community;
responsibility.
She is a member of the Mor-»
row Baptist Church, choir mem
ber, President of the W.M.U.,
member of the Morrow Home
Demonstration Club and the
Morrow Volunteer Fire Dept.
Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Her hobbies are cooking, sew
ing, reading, baby-sitting with
her nine grandchildren who love
to come to grandmother’s house,
and helping her husband in his
work in the Lions Club. She fre
quently travels with Mr. Shirley,
who is Zone Chairman for Dis
trict E of Lions International, as
well as past president of the
Morrow Lions Club, to meetings.
She attends PTA for her grand
children and is proud to be
counted twice because she is a
grandmother.
Mrs. Shirley has been a suc
cess as Mother and homemaker
as evidenced by the character

and achievements of her indi
vidual children. Her daughter,
Mrs. Cooper, and daughter-in
law, Mrs. Shirley, are members
of the Morrow Junior Woman’s
Club and quite active in civic
and community affairs.
We especially feel that Mrs.
Shirley embodies those traits
highly regarded in Mothers:
courage, cheerfulness, patience,
affection, understanding, as well
as a homemaking ability. She is
a happy person who through the
years worked patiently, quietly,
and untiringly with her family
as her first-love.
