PROCLAMATION
i WHEREAS: Civitan International has established the week
of Feb. 2-8, as “Civitan International Clergy
Week,” and,
WHEREAS: The Forest Park Civitan Club invites the people ,
of this area to join in this recognition of our
clergymen, and,
(WHEREAS: The clergy of our nations have meant so much '
to our religions and our way of life, and,
WHEREAS: The clergymen of our respective faiths have ;<
made such sacrifices in serving both God and
Country, in war and peace, and,
WHEREAS: Basically, we are a religious people, and,
WHEREAS: There presently is no special recognition of the
group as such, in honor of the people who have
dedicated their lives to the ministering of His
Word.
. NOW THEREFORE, I, W. H. Bateman, Mayor of the City of
Forest Park, do proclaim that the week begin-
Ining Sunday, Feb. 2, 1964, be known as “Clergy
Week” and invite everyone to take part in this
special recognition of our clergymen:

Tiny Tots Concerts
Once again a wonderful oppor
tunity for parents to satisfy the
musical curiosity of their chil
dren presents itself when the At
lanta Symphony Orchestra plays
its series of Tiny Tots Concerts
especially for the children of the
Metropolitan Atlanta Area.
These concerts are for chil
dren from-ages 3-9 arid are pre
sented annually by the Junior
Committee of the Atlanta Sym
phony Guild and co-sponsored by
Rich’s, Inc.
Musical literature provides
dozens of selections suitable for
tender ears and among those
played by the Orchestra will be
“The Flight of the Bumble Bee”
by Rimsky-Korsakov, excerpts
from Bizet’s Carmen Suite,
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite

This year there will be four
Sunday concerts. The first will
be held at Northside High School
' February 16; on February 23 at
the Decatur Recreation Center;
on March 1 at Therrell High
School in Cascade Heights; and
on March 8 at Osborne High
> School in Marietta. These con
' certs will be presented twice each
: date at 2:00 and at 3:30 p.m.
• Tickets for 50c each for chil
’ dren and adults will be sold at
’ the door and at all Rich’s stores.
; Proceeds from the concerts will
! be used for the upkeep of the in
struments of the Atlanta Sym
phony Orchestra.

East Atlanta Elementary
To Present Band Concert
The renown East Atlanta Elementary Band under the
direction of Mr. Charles Bradley, will present a concert in
the gymnasium of the Forest Park Senior High School on
i February 8 beginning at 7:30
; p.m. This demonstration concert
; will be open to the public and
: admission will be free.

; tion, the East Atlanta Elemen
i tary Rand traveled to Tampa,
■ Florida for the Southern Music
i Educators Conference. Since that
i time the band has appeared, by
: invitation, at the National Music
; Educators Conference in 1954,
the American Association of
School Superintendent’s Conven
: tion in 1956, the Southern Direc
; tor’s Conference in 1958, the
: Mid-East Band Convention in
1962, and the Mid-West Band
; Convention this school year. The
i band has been awarded a su
; perior rating each year during
: its sixteen years of existence.
The concert will be the climax
to a weekend of music, begin
; nlng at Jonesboro and sponsored
by the Phi Beta Mu National
School Bandmaster’s Fraternity.
An outstanding group of band
directors throughout the state
will assemble on Friday, Feb
ruary 7 for dinner and a talk by
Reginald Kell; world famous
clarinetist and teacher of Benny
Goodman. Mr. Kell, of London,
will fly in from New York for the
occasion. His trip is sponsored by
the Ideal Music Co. of Atlanta.
Beginning Saturday morning,
“Operation Helping Hand” will
get under way in the Jonesboro
Schools with several bands of
this area being rehearsed by the
guest conductors. The rehearsals
will be devoted to work on the
upcoming festival music. Bands
participating in the clinic will
be; The Hapeville Symphonic
and Concert Bands, The Forest
Park Senior High Symphonic
and Concert Bands, The Jones
boro Area Grade School and
Jonesboro Junior High Bands,
and the Jonesboro Senior High
Symphonic Band.
In addition, those Phi Beta Mu
members not busy working with
one of the bands will be present
ing clinics and giving help to In
dividual members of the bands.
All interested persons are in
vited to attend these rehearsals
and the public is cordially in
vited to attend the concert on
Saturday night.

Hendrix Drive PTA
Has Monthly Meet
The Hendrix Drive PTA met
Jan. 28, 1964. Mrs. E. L. Swiney,
Vice-President presided.
An interesting speech, Let’s
Talk It Over—School Affairs was
given by Clayton County School
Superintendent, Mr. J. E. Ed
monds.
Mrs. James Lucas gave a very
enlighting report on what the
children really expect of their
parents today. Our Cub Scout
Troop 485 presented the Flag.
This year the PTA membership
voted to give our honorary Life
Membership to Mrs. E. L. Swiney.
Mrs. Jewel Dawson announced
that Sunday, February 9th and
16th is the day to get your free
Oral Polio Vaccine. Type I will
be available from 12:00 p.m. till
5:00 p.m. at Forest Park Sr. High
School.
A Study Group will be held
February 19 beginning at 9:30
a.m. This is a continuation held
from January 30th. Mrs. Barbara
Baker and Mr. Robert Browning
will be in charge of the study
group.
Mrs. Balcom announced that
all is going well with the prep
aration for the Dime Supper, to
be held February 15th from 11:30
to 7:30 p.m. Let’s all mark this on
our calendar and make this a
must on our agenda for the
month. There will be home cook
ed ham, fried chicken, string
beans, lima beans, cream pota
toes, cole slaw, rolls, tea, milk,
pies and cake.
