bridges around the county are badly in need of I

for safety’s sake. These things need to be done I
NOW, not in a few months time. The West side of I

Garden Hints
Storing Dahlia Tubers
It is not desirable to dig
dahlia roots until the tops are
destroyed by frost. Then they
should be cut down to within 6
inches of the ground and lifted.
In lifting, be careful not to injure
the roots by bruising or by
breaking them from the crown.
Care should be used in removing
as much soil as possible from
the-roots with a pointed stick,
allowing them to dry in the air
for a few hours; then store
them in a dry, cool, frost-proof
place. If the atmosphere of the
storage room is very dry, the
clumps should be packed in
barrels or boxes in peat moss or
sand, or wrapped in newspaper.
The packing material should be
dry when used. It will then tend
to take up water from the
clumps at first and reduce the
tendency to dry out at the end
of the storage period. Varieties
differ in behavior in storage,
some shriveling and others re
maining firm under like condi
tions.
Storing Tuberous Begonias
Withhold water in late fall,
allowing tops to die down—
carefully lift tubers, and allow
to dry in a cool shady place for
several days. Cut off foilage and
store in a box of dry sand at
room temperature.

TO THE SUPPORTERS
AND FRIENDS OF
LAMAR NORTHCUTT
I take this opportunity to express my sincere ap
preciation to you, my friends and supporters, for
all you have done for me in the past. I feel I owe
you a great deal for what you have meant to me.
I also feel I should let you know of my intentions
in the coming election. I feel that I can best serve
my county and friends by not running for any
county office at this time. However in September
I will be a candidate for the State Senate from
the 44th District. I would like to impose on my
friends and supporters at this time to call all your
friends in Rockdale, Henry and Clayton Coun
ties and ask them to support me for this office.
I sincerely feel I can serve you and my county
better in this position. Thank you for your past
support and may God bless you and our county.

Style Show
On Thursday
On Thursday, February 20.
7:30 p.m., the folks at Riverdale
are in for a real treat. They are
going to have a style show that
will tell us what the well-dressed
PTA member has worn from the
yery first meeting of the Parent
leacher Association right up to
le present day.
Mrs. Birney and Mrs. Hearst,
portrayed by two of our mem
bers, will tell some of the in
teresting highlights of PTA his
tory down through the years.
Models will show styles from
1888 right up to the current dress.
If you never saw the styles of
1928 when the Charleston was
so popular, you’ll not want to
miss this one. In 1948 the dresses
were a littie long . . . and you
wore them, too, so don’t laugh!
It is going to be surprising how
like today’s shift are the styles
of 1958 when the “sack” was
quite THE thing.
Mrs. Barbara McElroy of The
Bobbie Shop, Riverdale, will show
several current styles that are
being worn by the well-dressed
PTA member. You will certainly
enjoy this portion of the pro
gram.
It is going to be a fun evening
. . . and an interesting one as
Birthday Party
For Scott Foster
Scott is the sen of Mr. and
Mrs. Lamar Foster and lives
with Daddy and Mom at 126
Finley Drive, Forest Park. He
was 5 years old on Sunday, Feb.
9, but his birthday party was
given for him on Saturday.
Eight young guests helped
him celebrate, and of course
Beth, too. Beth is his baby sister.
Red roses decorated a scrump
tious birthday cake, strawberry
ice cream, and a gay tablecloth
with red decorations made a
really festive occasion. And the
sames they played were such
fun.
There were “musical chairs”
and pinning on the donkey’s
tail, and lots more.
Each young guest went home
complete with a red sucker for
company, after a glorious time.
