U.S. Savings Bonds Offer
Real Opportunity-Garner
United States Savings Bonds,
though young in years, already
have served four generations of
Americans and offer opportun
ity for generations yet unborn.
This was the observation to
day of J. A. Garner, Clayton
County Savings Bond Chairman,
as volunteer workers here and
elsewhere in the state joined in
the launching of Operation Se
curity, a nation-wide effort to
fdcus greater attention on the
role of Savings Bonds in build
ing security for families, com
munities and the country.
Pointing to the $135 billion
worth of Series E and H Savings
.Bonds sold since May 1941, Mr.
Garner said that no other fi
nancial program has had a
greater impact upon the people
of the United States.
“Os this great backlog of indi
vidual savings, more than S9O
billion worth have been convert-
ed during the intervening years
into new homes, new cars, trac
tors and other equipment, and
have been used to educate chil
dren and provide comfort in re
tirement years.”
“These dollars have served
grandfathers, fathers, children
and now their children during
this short span of years.”
“Yet, perhaps the most signif
icant feature of this great thrift
program is that more than $47
billion in Series E and H Sav
ings Bonds still are outstanding
and ready to provide the same
security and opportunity for the
present and future generations.”

FOR THE GREAT HIGHWAY PERFORMERS
“And this is no transistory sit-1
uation,” Mr. Garner added, “but
reflects the development of [
sound habits of thrift by the
people of America. Through the
bond program, many have
learned to save for the first time.
It has made them more secure,
better able to meet unforeseen
emergencies, as well as to enjoy
greater comforts of life.”
Mr. Garner emphasized, how
ever, that the benefits of the
Savings Bond Program have not
been all one-sided.
“At the same time our people
have helped themselves, they ■
have helped their country. Just
as their dollars — invested in
bonds — built ships and tanks
and planes in time of war, they
are contributing importantly to
the safe and sound management
of the government’s affairs as it:
. meets its far-flung obligations
in time of peace.”
Your Chevrolet resists nose diving on stops.
The front-end suspension with built-in anti-dive con
trol gives it Jet-smooth stops.
Your Chevrolet resists shaking and vibrating.
All seven Chevrolet engines are precision balanced for
smooth operation. And because your Chevrolet has
over 700 insulators and sound deadeners, you don’t
have to shout to have yourself heard.
Now it’s Trade ’N’ Travel Time at your Chevrolet
dealer’s—the perfect time to try the Jet-smooth ride.
Find the meanest stretch of road you can. Then see
for yourself how straight a crooked road can feel.
“This serves - a dual purpose
for as it keeps the country
strong and secure, it strengthens
the guarantee that their invest
ea aunars — with interest — will
be ready when they need them ”
“So, any yardstick that meas
ures the accomplishments of
the Savings Bond Program must
take into consideration— entirely
apart from the material gains
of the people — the invaluable
lessons of thrift it has taught
and the warm feeling that fol
lows when Americans buy a
share in America.”
“These, too. contribute to the
security of the individual and
the security of our nation.”
