Officials Attack
j Rabies Problem
The Clayton County Commis
ioners and Board of Health are
very conscious of the dangers of
i person contracting rabies from
the bite of a rabid animal, and
are determined to take all pre
cautions possible to prevent this
happening.
Due to the spread of rabies in
'he fox and coon population in
southern Georgia, which is rap
dly creeping to the north, a ra
bies epidemic could very easily
break out in Clayton County.
Any rabid animal can transmit
the disease to any other animals
which have not been inoculated
at regular intervals as prescribed
iy the American Veterinary As
jociation.
There is no known cure for a
human after he has contracted
"abies and when he is bitten by
x rabid animal. It is sure death
unless he takes a series of very
oainful shots.
County and Health Depart
ment officials are determined to
Drevent this, if possible, by pass
ing and enforcing a strict rabies
- -emtrob ordinance which should
?ive the citizens of Clayton
County as much security as pos
sible.

POSTPONEMENT
Because of the unkind weather last Saturday, Jonesboro
Athletic Association had to postpone their opening ballgame '
day with its parade and its Chick-N-Cue until this Satur
day, May 9. Ticket holders, just hang on to those tickets and
come along this Saturday. Events will be just as scheduled,
the games even better, and the chicken just about the best
you’ve ever tasted. Bring the crowd with you and help make
up to the kids for the disappointment they had last Satur
day. And you might keep your fingers crossed that the rain
won’t happen again.

Soil Stewardship Week
May 3-10
The Earth Is the Lord’s S
Clayton County citizens are joining the
Georgia Asociation of Soil and Water Con- I
servation Districts along with other states
of our nation in observing May 3-10 as
“SOIL STEWARDSHIP WEEK.”
This year’s theme is TO EACH AMONG
US-A SHARE. Meaning a SHARE of RE
SPONSIBILITY - TALENT - FAITH - OP
PORTUNITY - and of EXPANDING HOR
IZONS - CONSIDER YOUR SHARE.
There is a direct relationship between
the fertility of the SOIL, the availability of
WATER, and the condition of LIFE.
America now requires 270 billion gal
lons of water daily-in 1980, daily needs
will be 600 billion gallons. Population of
our Nation is increasing by 3 million an
nually—The year 1980 will require double
the present production from agricultural
lands to meet PEOPLE’S NEEDS.
SOIL and WATER — without these no
life could exist. Let each of us DO OUR
SHARE to protect, improve and use them
properly for the welfare of all mankind.

THE MEANING —
“Mother, what is a trousseau?’’
inquired a six-year-old of her
mother. The mother looked
across the room at her husband,
who was hiding behind a paper,
and said:
“A trousseau is the clothes the
bride wears for six or seven
years after she is married.”
