‘ On Thursday evening, May
{2lst the training committee of
the Tara District of the Boy
Scouts of America, Atlanta Area
Council, Inc. will present a course
on UNDERSTANDING EXPLOR
ERS (or teen-agers). The course
will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
and will be held at the Jones
Memorial Methodist Church. All
Explorer adults leaders and par
ents are encouraged to attend as
well as any adult interested in
or working with teen-age young
men. Church and Civic leaders
should especially make every ef
fort to attend this enlightening
course developed by the Na
tional Council of the Boy Scouts
of America and the University
iof Michigan. No registration or
{ fee is involved for this course.

County Commissioners and{
State leaders will be meeting
with Jack Conway, President
Johnson’s Consultant on the:
proposed War on Poverty Pro
gram at the ACCG Convention
at Jekyll Island on April 5, 6 and
7. Sargent Shriver is sending
Jack Conway to Jekyll to meet
with local government officials
for the first time since Mr. Con
way’s appointment for the pur
pose of hearing from local offi
cials on the needs of many of
our Georgia counties.
Mr. Conway, who is Executive
Director of the Industrial Union
Department of the AFL-CIO was
appointed by President Johnson
to help develop community ac
tions programs called for in the
proposed Poverty Program as:
outlined by President Johnson.

9:00 o’clock that memorable
morning, Skip and his friends,

.| Laughlin, arrived on the an
.| nounced route at 8:30. After a
two-hour wait, the President’s
car came into view.
The crowd was vast, but Skip
and Mike held their ground.
Susan had become separated
from them. The President’s car
| stopped right where Skip and!
|Mike were standing, and the
Secret Service men motioned for
‘| the crowd to come closer for 3
handshake.
“Somehow,” says Skip, “the
| President happened to shake my
hand. I still just can’t believe it.
I look at that right hand and
now it seems different. Some
ll day, I'll tell my children: ‘Look,
:Ihere’s a hand that once shook
|the hand of the President of
1 these United States!’”
