Azalea Fertilization

Os all the shrubs grown In
Georgia gardens, azaleas are
among the most easily In
jured by fertilizers. The root
system of azaleas can be
stunted or even killed when
fertilizer is carelessly ap
plied. Here are some tips
which will help to reduce the
possibility of azalea injury:
Make lighter applications
of fertilizer to azaleas as
compared to other shrubs. A
safe rate of a balanced fer
tilizer such as an 8-8-8 and
5-10-10 analysis is one table-
How used up is a

unless they will never be
picked or threshed or will be
used exclusively as boiled
peanuts (referred to as green
peanuts).

with a heavy application of
water. Heavy watering will
reduce the possibility of fer
tilizer injury considerably.

a special called meeting at 9 A.M.,
Friday, October 21, 1966.
The following members were
present: Mr. P. K. Dixon and Mr.
James A. Duncan.
Motion by Mr. Duncan, seconded
by Mr. Dixon, that the following
pay scale be adopted in lieu of all
previous pay scales, with the ex
ception of step increases previously
approved for the Police Department,
and that base pay in the new pay
scale be observed by the Civil Serv
ice Board for all employees hired
after this date. Any step increases
due under the new pay scale for
present employees will not become
effective until after January 1, 1967.
The adoption of this pay scale ex
pressly revokes all previous pay
scales in conflict therewith. Vote
unanimous.

S. Expressway was considered by
the board. Motion by Mr. Duncan,
seconded by Mr. Vaughan, that the
petition be approved provided the
owner agrees to erect a fence on
the south property line if neces
sary. Vote unanimous.
The petition of R. J. Osborne, to
rezone property from C-3 to C-4,
> located on 85 Hwy. was presented
; to the board. Motion by Mr.
Vaughan, seconded by Mr. Dixon,
that the petition be approved sub
ject to a letter from the State High
way Department approving ingress
and egress. Vote unanimous.
Motion by Mr. Vaughan, seconded

in the Health Department, be
classified as recommended by the
Civil Service Board in their letter

a regular meeting at 10:00 A.M.
Tuesday, December 6, 1966.
The following members were
present: Mr. P. K Dixon, Mr.
James A. Duncan and Mr. Tommy
E. Vaughan.
A meeting with members of the
Patrick, Representative Bill Lee,
Patrick, Representatives Bill Lee,
Representative-Elect Lamar North
cutt and Mr. Charles Crawley,
Chairman of the Clayton County
Water Authority, was held with the
County Commissioners to discuss
annexation of county water and
sewerage lines into cities. Chairman
Crawley requested clarification on
the water authority franchise, and
reported to the commissioners and
the legislative delegates the possi
bility of a friendly lawsuit to ascer
tain the legal position of the Clay
ton County Water Authority.
Motion by Mr. Vaughan that
Clayton County contract with the
City of Forest Park for fire pro
tection for Fire District No. 1 for
a two-year period at the rate of
•4i mills. Motion failed for lack of
a second.
Motion by Mr Duncan that Clay
ton County study the city of Forest
Park’s fire contract and notify the
city at a later date of the county’s
action. Seconded by Mr. Dixon.
Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Vaughan, seconded
by Mr. Dixon, that the County At
torney be authorized to amend the
charter of the Economic Opportu
nity Association to correct the name
of the organization and remove the
restriction in the present charter
limiting their scope of authority to
Title Two only. Vote unanimous.
Motion by Mr. Duncan, seconded
by Mr. Vaughan, that Clayton
County enter into a contract with
the City of Forest Park at the rate
of (4) mills per annum under the
same terms of the contract of 1966
for fire protection in Fire District
No 1. This contract will be for a
period of two years ending Decem
ber 31, 1968 as proposed by the City
of Forest Park, and the Chairman
of the Board shall be authorized to
execute said contract on behalf of
Clayton County. Vote unanimous.
Motion by Mr. Dixon, seconded
by Mr. Vaughan, that Clayton
County participate in the Rapid
Transit appropriations for the year
1967. Vote unanimous.
Motion by Mr. Dixon, seconded
by Mr. Vaughan, that a contract on
F-074-2 (9) be executed with the
State Highway Department. Vote
unanimous.
