Fertilize Lawn Now
By CHARLES S. TUCKER
County Agent
The major fertilizer ele
ments needed by lawn
grasses for proper growth
are nitrogen, phosphorus,
and potassium. The amount
of these elements to use de
pends upon the kind of grass
grown, the type of lawn de
sired and the pocketbook of
the owner. Every bag of fer
tilizer contains an analysis
tag, required by the State
Department of Agriculture,
showing the percent of these
fertilizer elements. Thi s
should be the main guide for
a homeowner to use in se
lecting the kind of fertilizer
to use for a lawn. It tells him
the amount of nitrogen,
phosphorus, and potassium
contained in the fertilizer.
Don’t be misled by fancy
names and wild claims as to
the advantages of this or
that fertilizer. The real test
of a fertilizer’s value is the
amount of fertilizer ele
ments it contains.
Some fertilizer analyses
that are suitable for lawns
are 6-12-12, 5-10-15, and
8-8-8, The first number de
notes the percent nitrogen,
the second number Is the
percent phosphorus, and the
third number Is the percent
potassium contained in the
fertilizer. Generally, 20 to 30
pounds of either one of these
fertilizer analyses per 1000

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
A Drunken Fortune-teller Sets a Youth to Thinking
Young Robert Robinson poured the
gypsy fortuneteller another drink and sat
back to watch the fun. The boy’s widowed
mother had sent him to London when he
was 14 to learn the barber trade under one
Mr, Joseph Anderson. But he cared little
for the trade and when Anderson wasn’t
reprimanding him for acts of mischief he
was bawling him out for spending his time
reading books. Now it was 1754. Robinson
had served his five years and Anderson was
relieved of his ward.
Suddenly realizing that he had to earn
his own living, 19-year-old Robinson went
to a fortuneteller for advice—and fun. But
when the gypsy looked groggily into the
crystal ball she came up with a bit of in
telligence that set her mischief-loving cus
tomer to thinking. Said she, “You will
live to see your grandchildren.”
Robert Robinson realized for the first
time that he must die eventually. This and
the thought that his grandchildren might
regard his life as useless haunted him for
^months. Then, in December 1754, he
stopped at an open air meeting to hear
John Wesley’s co-preacher, George White-
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise the mount—l'm fixed upon it—
Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I’m come;
And I hope by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

field, warn his congregation of “the wrath
to come.” That did the trick. Finding
“peace by believing,” the youth deter
mined to get on the narrow path and to
devote his life to persuading others to do
likewise. And he started praying that
when his time came he wouid die “softly,
suddenly, and alone.”
Armed only with his barbershop book
learning, Robert Robinson started preach
ing as a Methodist, changed to the Inde
pendents and switched to the Baptists.
Pastor of a small church at Cambridge,
England, the self-made minister became
one of the empire’s most forceful writers
and preachers. On June 9, 1790, when he
was 54 years old, he went to Birmingham
to fill the pulpit of Dr. Priestly. The fol
lowing morning Priestly knocked on the
door of his guest. There was no answer.
Robinson had died in his sleep.
Robert Robinson was only 23 years old
when he left to posterity a hymn that has
been sung for six generations. It was only
four years after he had made the gypsy
fortuneteller drunk that the converted
Robert Robinson wrote . . .
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

(^^■Y THE OLD TIMER '
From Mrs Mary Palmer,
Ocean City, New Jersey: When
I was a little girl I lived in
Philadelphia, and how I loved
the trolley cars! Every Sunday,
my sister and I would take the
trolley to Fairmount Park. We
lived in Center City and for five
cents we had the best outing
money could buy! Years went
by— I married and moved to
Ocean City, New Jersey. There
was a trolley track that ran
from the Gardens to 59th St.
The full length of the Island. I
remember many joyful hours on
the trolley.
My children were small, and
usually I had a Sulkie with me.
The trolley conductors were
mostly college students as the
trolley service was in the Sum
mertime only. I lived on a
corner and would get the chil
dren to watch for the trolley to
approach because there was no
special schedule. If the trolley
passed we would whistle or yell
and the conductor would back
up, pick us up (Sulkie and all)
and off we’d go! What fun!
Now there is a Shopping
Center in Ocean City which has
the Railroad running right in
the center of it, so that no matter
what side you’re on, — it’s the
right side. I think this is a grand
landmark. Sometimes there is
talk about removing the tracks.
, I hope they leave them because
our trains are real old "Tunner
Villes”, and the kids (andgrown
ups too!) all stop and look and
wave as the conductors come
by. It makes them happy to see
the train go by and what makes
people smile and be happy is
right . . .
Trust this will add to the
trolley tracks . . .
