Sales Hit
New High
t 7
J. J. Howard Jr., manager
of the W. T. Grant store at
Forest Park, today an
nounced Company sales for
the month ended Sept. 30, of
$79,336,843, up $6,337,431 or
8.68^; over September 1966
sales of $72,999,412.
Calendar year to date
sales of $615,991,265 are up
5.53% or $32,303,929 over
sales of $583,687,336 for the
like period of 1966. This is
likewise a Company sales
record.
During the month, the na
tional general merchandise
retail company opened its
largest mid-western store in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and
three other major new units
in Sharon, Pa., Suffolk, Va„
and Long Beach, Calif.,
launching the Company’s
Fall store expansion pro
gram which will see the
addition of over one million
square feet of new store
space by year's end.
At Sept. 30 Grant had
1,095 stores in operation
compared with 1,099 in 1966.
About
Social
Security
Social Security benefi
ciaries who work should re
port this promptly. Don
Skaggs, District Manager of
the East Point Office, today
offered this word of advice
to beneficiaries in this area,
“Earnings of SISOO or less
will ordinarily not affect re
ceipt of monthly checks—
benefits will continue
throughout the year.” How
ever, he did issue this warn
ing to avoid a possible over
payment in benefits during
a year, “Earnings in excess
of SISOO a year will result in
a loss of some, or all, bene
fits for that year. So, when a
person who is receiving so
cial security benefits starts
to work, this work should be
reported promptly if they
expect to earn over SISOO for
the year.’’
According to Skaggs, a
number of overpayments
have been caused in recent
months by a misunderstand
ing as to when to report. So
many beneficiaries think
they should wait until the
SISOO is reached and then
report the earnings. Often
times it’s too late then, for
the beneficiary is already
overpaid. Naturally this
works a hardship when the
person has already spent the
money and is required to pay
it back. When a person re
ports that he is working, the
benefits will be stopped for
the necessary number of
months based on what he
expects to make for the
year. Skaggs emphasized
that it’s easier to stop and
start checks than it is to pay
back money which was not
due. At the end of each year
an adjustment will be made
based on the actual earn
ings.
Skaggs urged any bene
ficiary with questions about
when and how to report
earnings to call or visit the
Social Security Office in
East Point at 2727 Main
Street. That office is open
from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on
Saturday of each week for
the convenience of persons
who cannot call or visit
during regular office hours.
THERRELL DEFEATS
(Continued From Page 1)
whereupon Wilson lofted one
through from the 18 for 3
points. Quarterback Mike
Sorrow hurled a TD pass to
Johnson before the first
quarter ended and Wilson
added the extra point to put
Therrell ahead, 10-7.
In the second period a 40-
yard pass play, Hunt to Phil
lips, gained 40 yards and
Fordham punched the last
two yards to score putting
Forest Park ahead again, 14-
10. But Therrell came back
and hustled to the Panther
27 and Wilson again booted
one, this time from the 34.
In the final half it was
altogether different. Forest
Park had the ball seven
times but five times yielded
it on fumbles and intercep
tions.
Meantime, Sorrow and
Cates hoked up on a 46-yard
pass play and Wilson again
converted to make it 23-14
In the last period another
Panther pass was inter
cepted by McWhorter for
Therrell and returned to the
four. Heirs plunged across
from the one and Wilson
picked up the extra point.
Wilson kicked his fourth
field goal from 16 yards and
that was it.

another score.
Stroud took a D’Holsey
pass for an exciting 40-yard
TD to begin the second half

twice again on runs of 20
yards and 26 yards.
Danny D’Holsey closed out
the TD tide with a fumbled
