When the leaves turn,
turn to electric heat
Leaves splashed with crimson and orange are
fair warning that foul weather is on the way.
They’re also a signal to check your old heat
ing system. Maybe this is the time to switch
to flameless electric heat. It’s the most modern
system you can buy. And it’s the cleanest heat
in the world.
Take your choice. A central electric furnace.
Invisible ceiling cable. Baseboard units. Per
haps wall panel heaters. Or, for year-round
climate control, the electric heat pump.
All systems provide even, constant heat. Re
liably. Conveniently. Economically.
Make a change for the best. In just a day or
so you can enjoy clean, quiet, comfortable elec
tric heat in your home. And leave winter where
it belongs. Out in the cold.
Check with your certified electric heating dealer
for the type of electric heat best for your home.

Jean Dufy
To Exhibit
Art
An exhibition of works by
renowned French artist,
Jean Dufy, will open at The
Briggs Gallery in Atlanta on
Sunday, November 5.
The collection consists of
38 drawings and paintings in
oil and watercolor. Most of
these come direct from Paris
and have never been shown
in this country before.
Jean Dufy is noted for his
radiant color sense and
magnificent draughtsman
ship. His subject matter is
widely varied from studies of
Paris, hunting scenes, or
chestras, circus clowns, and
the ships and harbors which
he loved, but all are imbued
with gaiety, charm, and his
own tremendous zest for
living. His paintings hangin
famous museums here and
abroad and are widely
sought after by private col
lectors as well. One of the
largest paintings In the
world, La Fee de L’Electrl
cite, a monumental mural of
almost 200 feet by 30 feet,
painted by Jean Dufy and
his brother Raoul, is on per
manent exhibition at the
Museum of Modem Art in
Paris.
Miss Susan Briggs, Direc
tor of The Briggs Gallery,
says, “We feel particularly
fortunate to be able to
bring this exciting collection
to Atlanta and doubly so in
that the opening marks our
first anniversary.”
The showing will open at
3 p.m. on Sunday, November
5, and will be on view until
December 31.

A RESOLUTION
Whereas, Representatives Richard L. Starnes, Jr., o£ Rome and Wil
liam Burton Steis o£ Hamilton introduced a House resolution in the Geor
gia General Assembly 1967 to appoint a committee to study the feasibility
of legalized gambling in Georgia, and
Whereas, this resolution never reached the floor of the House for
discussion and therefore was not passed, and •
Whereas, Speaker George L. Smith under the authority of House Rules
did appoint a committee to study the advantages offered Georgia by le
galized parimutuel betting, and
Whereas, certain feature and editorial writers of daily newspapers
and other proponents of legalized gambling continue to insist that Georgia
should legalize gambling, and
Whereas, we believe legalized gambling will encourage gangsters and
be destructive of the moral and ethical standards of the State and every
community involved and will promote the corrupting of public officials,
therefore
Be It Resolved, that we express our unequivocal opposition to pari
mutuel betting and all other forms of gambling, either legal or illegal and
That we declare our opposition to every effort to gain public approval
or make legal any form of gambling, and
That we request the pastors and members of our churches to work to
gether in programs to inform citizens of Georgia of the demoralizing cor
rupting, and spiritually corroding effects of gambling, and
That we commend every public official including the Governor, the
Honorable Lester G. Maddox, and the Lieutenant Governor, the Honorable
George T. Smith, for their opposition to gambling and that we further
commend the Governor for his efforts to enforce the laws dealing with
this Issue and other issues of public decency and good citizenship.
Be It further resolved that we request the Clerk of this Association to
furnish a copy of this resolution to each person whose name appears there
in and to furnish a copy to the news media of this area and to The Chris
tian Index.
I, W. W. Wells, the duly elected Clerk of the Clayton Missionary Baptist
Association, hereby certify that the above is a true copy of a resolution
adopted by a unanimous vote of the Messengers in attendance at the
Eleventh Annual Meeting of the Clayton Missionary Baptist Association
held on October 10, 1967 at The First Baptist Church of Forest Park, Forest
Park, Georgia.
