Tucker
Presents
Program
The program for the Forest |
Park Kiwanis Club on May 2, |
was presented by Charlie
Tucker, County Agriculture
Agent, and Kiwanis chair- !
man of the Agriculture and |
Conservation Committee. His |
program was about soil stew- |
ardship, and the club was re- |
minded that Soil Steward
ship Week is this month, |
May 19-26.
In his comments Tucker
stated, “There are 6,000,000
Americans now producing |
food by farming. Younger |
people are not going into
farming, partly because of |
greater interest in other |
areas, but also because of the |
large investment necessary |
to get into the farming busi- |
ness. Unless a farm situation !
is inherited, younger people |
are not going into farming. |
The average age of mrmers[
in Georgia is 59. Who will |
produce our food when the
‘ present generation is gone?"
| In commenting on the im
| portance of our soil, Tucker
{ further stated, “Love your}
‘ land. It is the source of all |
wealth. Every object in tho|
i world comes from the land, |
not just food, but all man |
l made structures, whether it
be wood, brick, metal, etc.”
i Tucker then presented a
; film stressing the importance
|of soil, stewardship, the
| proper care of the soil, espe
i clally as stressed in the
Bible, such as in Psalm 24. It
is the duty of each genera
tion build up and improve
our natural resources, such
as the soil, not to tear down,
destroy, or deplete such re
sources.
The program for the May
9 meeting will be presented
by Mrs. Eva Griffin who will
present a choral group from
the Lake City Elementary
School.
