BOTTLES HIM UP
Robber Gets In Her Hair
Beautician Has The Solution
A beautician took time away from shampooing and drying a cus
tomer’s hair to capture a would-be robber.
“I was so excited I forgot to make him drop Ms gun. It (the
gun) fell out of his pants after I had marched him at pistol
-point to the front of a nearby barber shop,” said Mrs. Jean
Verrlll.
Mrs. Verrlll, a beautician at the Gresham Plaza Beauty Salon,
at 2523 Gresham Road SE, told DeKalb County detctiveß.H.
Williams she was shampooing and drying a customer’s hair
Monday when a young man entered the shop.
“I walked to the front,” she said, “and asked if I could help
him. He stated, ‘This Is a stick-up,’ and repeated the same
statement when I remarked that he must be kidding.”
The beautician said she then walked toward the rear of the
building and removed a ,25-callber pistol from her pocketbook
and cocked it.
“As I turned around, he was pulling a gun from Ms pants. I
ordered him to drop the weapon and he answered, ‘Don’t shoot.
It’s not loaded.’ I told him my pistol was loaded and that we
were going next door and wait for the police,” Mrs. Verrlll
said.
“She marched him to the barber shop,” detective Williams
said, “and a barber there telephone police. It was learned
later that the pistol in the suspect’s possession had two live
rounds.”
The suspect, Virlln James Williams, 20, of St. Wyandotte,
Mich., a soldier, was charged with criminal attempt to commit
armed robbery.
Mrs. Verrlll lives at 5270 Madison St. Forest Park, Ga.
