Happy Birthday Colonel Van Lydegraf
Colonel and Mrs. Dean Van Lydegraf display cake presented the
Colonel on his birthday. A native of Ableman, Wisconsin, he
has served in the Army since 1943, his overseas service in
cluding Europe, Korea, and Vietnam. He assumed command
of the Depot last October, coming from Vietnam where he was
assigned as Deputy Commander/Chief of Staff, Cam Ranh Bay.

Delta Pilots Contribute
To South Fulton Hospital
Under the leadership of Captain Les Hale and assisted by
Captains Jim Bain, W. R. Clifton, Dana Jones, Bob Schorr and
R. G. Green, the Delta pilots have provided funds to furnish one
private and three semi private room in the $4,000,000 addition to
the South Fulton Hospital.

“Delta PUots should be very proud of their financial support
of tlie Hospital’s present fund drive” Schwaemmle said.
“They realize that this community supported hospital provides
tlie latest in hospital faculties and services available to tlie
Atlanta Airport environs, tlie area where tlie majority of Delta
residents in Hie Atlanta Airport environs, the area where tlie
majority of Delta pilots and their families reside.”

Preserves Game
A late issue of Outdoor Life
contains a brief item that il
lustrates the growing compati
bility of modem industrial op
erations with conservation and
environmental improvements.
Outdoor Life tells of the work
which a power company* in
Georgia has done to convert
120,000 acres of land lying
within rights-of-way of trans
mission lines of its service
area into improved hunting ter
ritory for sportsmen.
The company offers to pay
owners of land under its pow
er lines sls to S4O an acre
for clearing and planting the
rights-of-way in row or cover
crops for game birds and ani
mals. A spokesman for the
company says that a similar
plan has been in effect for some
time in Alabama. Tills program
to encourage crop planting on
transmission line rights-of
way has been endorsed by the
Soil Conservation Service, the
state Game and Fish Com
mission, the Future Farmers of
America and other organiza
tions. Outdoor Life also notes
that the Georgia company is
held in high esteem by anglers
of the state because of the com
pany’s policy of maintaining ex
cellent fishing in its system
of power lakes. It has do
nated land at one of these lakes
to the state for use as a fish
hatchery and public camping

The Regular NROTC Pro
gram prepares a young man
for a Navy or Marine Corps
commission while he is study
ing at one of the many civi
lian colleges and universities
where NROTC Units are es
tablished. All tuition, fees,
uniforms, and books are fur
nished by tlie Navy, and the
student receives SSO per month
subsistence allowance for not
more Uian four years. During
the summers between academic
years, the student jarticiiutes
in interesting at-sea training
periods as a Midshipman. After
successfuUy completing a l>ac
calaureat level college course
and all military requirements,
he is commissioned in tlie Re
gular Navy or Marine Corps.
Eligible high school seniors
