The United States Senate by unani mous vote, resolved that Sunday last should be set aside as a day of prayer to Almighty -God from this Christian nation to give strength to o”r arms bt our just war and to bring us permanent peace on the basis of righteousness in His own good time. The House of Representatives, aft er some debate as to whether this nation was or was not a Christian nation, agreed that it was, and concurred in the resolu tion proclaiming a day of prayer. Sunday was -celebrated over the land by devout people. In city and on farms, in army and navy—broken hearts, cour ageous hearts, yearning hearts united in an appeal to the Final Arbiter of every cause. The content of every prayer was “Oh, send us Peace in Thy time, O, Lord.” Prayers were promulgated by various religious bodies and some printed pray- i ers were scattered broadcast by individu- I als. As might be expected, one of the most original, the most unique, is that of Billy Sunday, coming next week for a series of meetings in Atlanta. Thi Associated Press has given it wide pub licity. We give it in full: Almighty God, our Heavenly Father we pray Thee that war may continue un til Prussian militarism is swept off th face of the earth, until the snake of nu tocracy is crushed forever, until demon racy is unshackled, until justice has a fail show, until the virtue of woman is sure o! protection, until little cnlidren no longe: . go hungry, until the Kaiser and his co harts have unpacked their trunks on St Helena’s barren rocks. And in the meantime, give each one o' us the fighting spirit that led the crusad ers to victory. If we do not fight with ou: hands in the trenches, help us to flgh with .sacrificing hearts at home. Drawn Sword for Country Only. Thou knowest, Oh Lord, we have no entered this bloody *-ar because of avar ice or greed and we do not covet Ger many’s gold or land- We have drawn th sword to defend our country against tin most infamous, blood-thirsty horde of hu man harpies that ever disgraced the earth They respect neither law nor religion nothing is sacred if it stands in thei; path. Lord, bless the President: give him wis dom; bless all the councils of state am’ war. Keep us a united nation in fact and spirit. Bless the army and navy. Many of our brave boys already sleep somewhere in France or beneath the sea. Bring victory to our cause because we know it is Your cause. We have joined hands and hopes and hearts with our no ble allies that this world may be a safe place in which to live. Thou knowest. All this, together with the. deluge of blood, is enough to make hell laugh and heaven weep. Lord, thou has never forsaken our flag. It waves without a stain. May it lead every step of the way until the iron cross is sunk fathoms in hell and the world rests once more bathed in the radiance of the Cross of Christ. All this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Thy son, our Savior, amen. ARMY fRUCK“AFTRE~ ON WHELESS ROAD A break in the routine of the Admin istration Officers of the Army Y. M. C.
