ALWAYS ENJOY THEMSELVES.
“You would enjoy dropping into the
Y. M. C, A. this evening. The men are
packed around the-house.. Some are
reading, some writing, some playing the
victrola and another bunch gathered
around the piano singing popular songs.
All are enjoying, themselves as they al
ways do at the IY. M.
“There are six buildings here and each
one serves about, six thousand men. In
each building there arc six secretaries
and t)w ’-inn and a-'r-r*-* sorts of ac-

tivities, such as Bible classes, movie
shows, entertainments, French classes,
meetings, lectures, all sorts of athletic
games, etc. Then they are always ready
to sit down with a fellow and talk to him.
I tell you, if it wasn’t for the Y. M. the
men would have ahard time finding clean
amusement and from the way they pack
the buildings each night you can guess
that they sure appreciate it.
“The buildings are about 120 feet long
by 40 feet in width. At one end is the
counter and secretaries’ rooms. Over
these is a booth with a movie machine in
it- At the other end is the stage. We
have piano, library, victrola. all the late
magazines, etc. We surely do use them
a lot, too.
“Well. I could go on and tell you a lot
about things, but we are pretty busy
here and in the evenings we are tired ahd
after going to the Y. M. and writing
a letter or two and enjoying the program

Y. M. C. A. SECRETARIES
CANNOT ESCAPE DRAFT
With reference to the selection of sec
retaires for service overseas the Execu
tive Committee of the National War
Work Council of the Y. M. C. A. has au
thorized the following statement:
“The-National War Work Council has
been careful to select as secretaries no
men of military age except those who are
exempt upon statutory grounds or who
had been granted leave of absence by
Exemption Boards.
“Those who were granted such leave
of absence have gone into the service
with the clear understanding that'they
are to be ready to reportsfor duty when
their numbers are called-
“Notwithstanding the great loss of sec
retaries which the Association was called
upon to bear because of the draft the
Personnel Bureau of the„War Work Coun
cil has avoided giving* any encourage
ment to men of military age to enter As
sociation sendee.”
Several secretaries at Camp Hancock
have enlisted in artillery, medical corps
or navy. Several otners gs draft age
are ready to go when called.
