The deceused had been a membeij of the Methodist Church for more than forty years, having consecrated his life to God iu the morning aud vigor of man hood, and to him it was not hard to lay down an earthly life, of sorrow and be did it without a murrner, to tind it again free from in-] tirmities upon the threshhold of the world of endlesn joy. We sympathize with tin] family in their deep affliction. To them it will be lonely; everything will wear tin impress of sadness. The vacant chair at the table and at the fireside will be perpet ual mementoes of the sad bereavement. The voice of kindness and even playful ness to bis little grand-children is hushed forever and the silence is mournful and melancholy. The poor will feel his loss, for their appeals were never unanswered with such blessiugs as he possessed, not were they ever turned away empty. Tin Church has lost a valuable member, and the community an exemplary citizen. But aggregating the losses of all. they poorly] compare with the eternal gain to him. Ad a husband, (we repeat now since his death, what we have often said before), he was faultless. As ft father, but two indulgent and kind, bence tbo loss is more deeply felt and mourned. Again, we repeat that the family has ours and the sympathy ol the entire community. The funeral services, conducted by the Rev, Mr. Lewis, at the Methodist Church, on Wednesday morning, were solemn aDd impressive. The remains were then taken to Concord Church for interment, where he had, while living, expressed a desire to be buried with Masonic honors. This is an im mense house, aud docs, perhaps, as large or the largest business of any dry goods house iu the South. Capt. Hendry, who is a thorough merchantand perfectly famil iar with the wants of the South, is one of tho business uianagors, and purchases alt or nearly all the goods for the house; Uis familiarity with Southern trade fully en tiles him to make such purchases as will suit each and all of their numerous cus tomers. Our merchants who have traded with that house, inform us that they havt never had the slightest reason to complain, but in every instance, have been perfectly satisfied. This certainly speaks well for a house doing such au extensive business; we have no doubt, uud indeed, we have heard a number of merchants say, that they have and can get better bargains al this house than they can in New York; then frieghts and traveling expenses are dear gains.
