Just Acrcsa the Street
From the Marshal! House yon will see the
sign of the Grand Central Garden, and
Iho the sign of Charles Seiler. Entering
under either of these signs you come into
the establishment of the one man, Seiler.
The Garden is a cool and beautiful re
treat. with a large fountain of water in or
near the center with a number of small
tubes throwing up towards the ceiling,
beautiful, transparent streams of water
that forms the arc of a circle, when they
r.ach their height and dissolve into
spray, and, with dew like gentleness, fall
again to the fount. This is one <>f the
(•■■..lest and most inviting retreats in the
citv. There are a number of niee li. tie
tables at which, you can sit down nnd eat
Atiunuh. and take a glass of beer, without
being annoyed by those who use strong
drink. It is separate and distinct from a
bar room. We fraukly assert that tin-
Milwitnkie beer kept .mid sold by Mr.
Seiler is superior to any kept in tho city.
It is a good tonic, and h:iri**ltx>., and gen-
can visit the place and spend an
hours pleasantly. We would suggest to
our friends visiting Snvsmmh to stop lit
the Marshall House and step across tbp
street nnd see Charley and drink s little
beer and let whiskey alone. We wish our
beer sellers would introduce the Mil
wnukie beer here, it is far superior to any
other, and the difference in tho cost but
trifling. Mr. Seiler will be pleased to fill
orders, give him a trial. His advertise
ment can be seen by referiug to another
column of this paper.
Brick Burning.
“Wpswi’by tiie smoke Mint so grace
fully curls” that Messrs. Thrasher ami
McXiel have fired their first brick kiln,
■ ami the prospect is that there will soon be
an abundant supply of this important
building material in our town. Wo have
seen some specimens of unbnrnt brick
from their yard, that to our mind, will
bear clone inspection and if fire improves
them much, we cau safely say that they
will lie be a first class article. Another
yard is in full-blast and one or two more
nre spoken of as likely to be started this
full-This shows that onr people have con
fidence in the growth and prosperity of
j our town. We hope to see several new
] buildings going up before long and if the
s crop prospect holds out, wo donbt not
Quitman will enjoy a large and profitable
trade this fall and winter.
Crops, Weather &c.,
f As far as we have been able to find out
1 the crop prospect are encouraging, For a
I Jong time the Spriug was cold and wet and
the cotton and corn exceedingly backward.
Recently, however, the weather has been
warm and dry. A great deal of grass lias
been destroyed and there has been a won
derful come-out in the crops. We will
soon begin to need a little rain, but except
as to gardens, we have not suffered yet.
Oat Crop.
I Most of onr farmers have been busy har
vest! og their oats and we are glad to learn
that the harvest is likely to prove entirely
satisfactory. There is little or no rust in
the improved variety and the yield gener
ally is large. We have bad very favora
ble weather for saving this orop thus far
and we think in a few more days it will all
Ibe housed.

There is no purer, nobler, or better man

the use of his tiatnc in that connective po
